Famed Pak singer Reshma seeks Musharraf’s help to get land

Lahore, Sep 14: Ailing Punjabi folk singer Reshma has requested President Pervez Musharraf to help her get a residential plot that he had ordered for her in Islamabad, and also support her in the completion of a mosque she started five years ago near Shahdara.

The 59-year-old singer, admitted to a Gulberg hospital, is suffering from high blood pressure, general weakness and a sore intestine.

Prior to her present illness, Reshma was admitted to a hospital in London, a couple of weeks ago.

Apples during pregnancy help lower asthma, wheezing risk in kids

Washington, Sept 14: Eating an apple a day during pregnancy will not only kept the doctor away for expecting mums, but it can also help lower the risk of their kids developing asthma and wheezing.

The finding is based on a study published in the September issue of the journal Thorax in which researchers found that when women ate apples during pregnancy, their offspring tended to have a significantly lower risk of asthma and wheezing when they reached the age of five.

Brighter tumours indicate poorer prognosis

Washington, Sept 14: A new study of cervical cancer patients has revealed that irrespective of being big or small, if a tumour glows brightly in a PET (positron emission tomography) scan, it is likely to be more dangerous than dimmer tumours.

The study conducted by Washington University School of Medicine researchers reveals that PET ‘can reliably identify patients who have a poorer prognosis’.

London: Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has said that she cannot be deported from Pakistan like Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) chief Nawaz Sharif.

Bhutto said that she did not know how she would be welcomed on her return to Pakistan, but was not in the same boat as Sharif.

The News quoted her as saying that Sharif had bargained for his release from imprisonment and other cases in exchange for living abroad with his family and the foreign guarantees were provided for this.
