Chennai, Apr 29 : At least four people have been killed and several others injured when a passenger train and a goods train collided at Jeevanagar railway station in suburban Vyasarpadi on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident took place at around 6:00 a. m. when the passenger train coming from Chennai and the goods train coming from Arakkonam collided.
Following the accident, a fire broke out in one of the coaches of the local train, they said.
Four bodies have been retrieved by the fire and rescue personnel, police said, adding that more casualties were feared.
Chennai, Apr. 27 : The Congress party was on Monday attacked by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Chief Jayalalithaa for dubbing Eelam demands as `anti-national'.
"I am a patriot, why are my credentials being questioned?" she said.
Jayalalithaa claimed that her demand on Eelam was based on the humantarian crisis of trapped Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka and she was not demanding a separate nation being carved out of India.
Chennai, Apr 27 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi today called Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who is on an indefinite fast over Sri Lankan issue.
Dr. Singh assured Karunanidhi that his government is in touch with Colombo.
Sonia Gandhi also called the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo from Murshidabad in West Bengal and expressed her concern about the plight of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka.
Cryolor, French industrial gas tanks manufacturer and a 100 per cent subsidiary of Cryolor SA, has decided to set up a manufacturing facility near Chennai.
The plant would be setup at Melmaruvattur in Chennai, covering a built up area of 15,000 sq. m.
The company intends to pump an investment worth Rs 45 crore on the plant through its fully owned subsidiary Cryolor Asia Pacific.
Chennai, Apr 25: Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Saturday slapped a legal notice on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for alleging irregularities in uplinking of programmes of the satellite Television channel SUN TV, which is owned by his brother Kalanidhi Maran.
In his notice, Maran has sought Rs. 10 crore and an apology from Jayalalithaa.
