Lakshmi-ManchuChennai, Dec 10 : Having played an evil sorceress and a village belle in her earlier films, producer-actress Lakshmi Manchu is set to play a highly glamorous role in upcoming Telugu drama "Chandamama Kathalu".

"Since Lakshmi has not essayed any glamorous roles before I thought that she would perfectly fit the role of a super model," the film's director Praveen Sattaru told IANS.

"It's quite contrary to her previous roles and brings forth the side audiences have not seen from her in the past," he added.

Aamir to attend Chennai film fest at own expense

Aamir-KhanChennai, Dec 10 : Bollywood heartthrob Aamir Khan, who is set to attend the opening ceremony of the 11th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) Thursday, will bear his own expenses for the trip to the Tamil Nadu capital.

He is following in the footsteps of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who had attended the event last year at his own expense.

The eight-day festival is being organised by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation in association with the government of Tamil Nadu.

"Mahesh was extremely happy that Gautham was able to perfectly mouth his lines in the very first take. He didn't even need retakes as he was so confident with his lines and even produced the required modulation for the scenes," the film's director B. Sukumar told IANS.

Avika has gained immense popularity through "Chinnari Pellikuthuru", the Telugu dubbed version of "Balika Vadhu". It was her debut TV show in Hindi, but she is no longer associated with it.

Hyundai logs lower car sales in November

Hyundai logs lower car sales in NovemberChennai, Dec 2 : India's second largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Ltd.  Monday said it closed last month with 10.9 percent sales fall as compared to sales logged in November 2012.

In a statement issued, the company said it sold 49,681 units (domestic 33,501 units, exports 16,180 units) last month, down from 55,762 units (domestic 34,751 units, exports 21,011 units) logged in November 2012.

TVS Motor sales slide in NovemberChennai, Dec 2 : The TVS Motor Company Ltd., maker of two and three wheeler sold around 9,900 lesser units last month as compared to the same period in 2012.

The company said Monday it had billed its dealers 161,908 units last month down from 171,837 units in November 2012.

While the company's two wheeler sales skid last month, its sales of three wheelers went up by 25 percent.

TVS Motor sold 155,604 two wheelers and 6,304 three wheelers the last month against 166,783 two wheelers and 5,054 three wheelers in November 2012.

In a statement issued here, the company said it closed the financial year ending Sep 30, 2013 with a total income of Rs. 13,482 crore and a net profit of Rs. 802 crore up from a total income and net profit of Rs. 13,094 crore and Rs. 572 crore respectively logged the previous year.

Nissan Motor to sell Datsun models directly

nissan-datsun-goChennai, Nov 26 : The Indian subsidiary of Japanese automobile company Nissan Motor Company will set up a separate distribution network for selling its Datsun GO cars to be launched next year, it said Tuesday.

A company spokesperson told IANS that the existing distribution arrangement with Hover Automotive India would continue for Nissan badged vehicles.

Currently, Hover Automotive is responsible for setting up a dealer network for Nissan Motor India.

Jayalalithaa urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the ministry of power and the ministry of coal to take immediate steps "to ensure that these power plants under the control of central agencies maximise their generation and restore the supply of power to Tamil Nadu".

"The Mars orbital spacecraft is in good health. The apogee (farthest point from earth of the spacecraft is nearly 1.93 lakh km. On the first of December, we expect to move the spacecraft from the earth's orbit towards Mars. That's the main action," he said.

President to open N-waste management unit in Kalpakkam

In a statement Thursday, BARC said Mukherjee would also inaugurate four other advanced facilities set up by it.

ISRO gearing up to raise orbit of Mars Orbiter

ISRO-Mars-OrbiterChennai, Nov 6 : Indian space agency officials are gearing up to raise the orbit of Mars Orbiter launched into the earth parking orbit Tuesday afternoon, said a senior official.

"Early tomorrow (Thursday) at 1.17 a. m. the on-board motors of Mars Orbiter will be fired for around 200 seconds to raise its orbit by around 4,120 km to 28,785 km," S. Arunan, project director, Mars Orbiter Mission told IANS over phone from Bangalore Wednesday.

"Today morning (Wednesday) we carried out the rehearsal for the orbit raising activities without switching on the motor," he added.

Speaking to IANS, scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said the self corrective programmes incorporated in the orbiter, miniaturisation of components, cold starting of the orbiter engine after a gap of 300 days and other things can be incorporated in remote sensing and communication satellites that are built by India.
