Centre has damaged its fiscal credibility: Jayalalithaa

JayalalithaaChennai, Oct 30 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Wednesday alleged that the central government has damaged its fiscal credibility by reducing the amount allocated in the union budget.

She added that the common man is burdened with price rise due to the central government's wrong economic policy.

Jayalalithaa was replying to Panruti P. Ramachandran, deputy leader of the opposition in the assembly, who spoke on the funds to be received from the centre and the price rise.

She said: "The central government should have some credibility."

Keen to do 'Soodhu Kavvum' in other languages: Sanchita

Sanchita-ShettyChennai, Oct 28 : Southern actress Sanchita Shetty, who rose to stardom with her performance in Tamil crime-comedy "Soodhu Kavvum", wants to star in the remake of the film in other southern languages as well.

The remake rights of "Soodhu Kavvum" have already been bought and it is being remade in Telugu and Kannada.

"If given an opportunity, I would love to star in the remakes. It's one of the films I can never disassociate myself from. I have already been approached by the producer of its Telugu remake, but I'm more interested in Kannada version as it's my mother tongue," Sanchita told IANS.

Activists dispute reports on Kudankulam N-plant supplying power

Kudankulam-N-plantChennai, Oct 26 : The first unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) is supplying around 175 MW power and is still connected to the southern grid, officials said, even as activists disputed the claim.

"The unit is still connected to the grid and power supply is around 175-200 MW," an official of the Power System Operation Corporation Ltd, a subsidiary of the National Grid Corporation and which manages the Southern Grid, told IANS Saturday, preferring to remain anonymous.

Kudankulam N-plant to reconnect to the grid Oct 26

Kudankulam-N-plantChennai, Oct 25 : The first unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) that tripped Oct 22 is expected to be reconnected to the grid Friday night/Saturday, said informed sources.

Two highly-placed sources in the atomic energy establishment told IANS Friday evening that the unit started operating at 25 percent level and is likely to be reconnected to the grid.

"The unit is expected to generate around 300 MW," a source said.

Kudankulam officials work tirelessly to make n-plant functional

"Testing and fine-tuning of the systems are on. The project officials want to run the turbine in a couple of days after sorting out the issues," a source close to KNPP told IANS, preferring anonymity.

UniverCell targets Rs.1,400 crore from 550 stores

UnivercellChennai, Oct 10 : Mobile phone retail chain UniverCell Telecommunications India plans to increase its number of outlets by 100 to 550 stores this fiscal, and targets a turnover of Rs. 1,400 crore, a top company official said Thursday.

Of the 100 new stores, 30 will be opened this month.

The company will open its UniverCell brand outlets in markets like Mumbai and Pune, the official said.

Ford to roll out four new models at each of its plants

In a statement Tuesday issued to mark the 100th anniversary of Ford's moving assembly line, Ford India, the Indian subsidiary, said its vehicle and engine assembly plants coming up in Gujarat will go on stream 2014.

"We have grown our business by 20 percent last year. This additional capital infused in our business will be utilised for our business growth and expansion. We hope to achieve around Rs. 2,000 crore gross written premium (GWP) for the current year," said Managing Director S. S. Gopalarathnam.

"Fine-tuning of systems are on. WE have gone up to 20 percent/200 MW power levels. We might start running the turbine next week. We have not run the turbine till now. WE are not in a position to put a date as to when the unit would be connected to the grid," R. S. Sundar, site director of the KNPP told IANS over phone from Kudankulam.

"We expect AERB's (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) approval to begin erection of major equipment. Nearly 70 percent of the civil works have been completed," Lokesh Kumar, project director for the 3rd and 4th units of Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) told IANS over phone from Kakrapar in Gujarat.

"Every quarter from now there will be a new bike from TVS Motor. In January we will launch Scooty Zest. We will sell 20,000 units of Jupiter by December. While the launch in north India happened today (Monday), the model will be launched in south India this November," chairman and managing director Venu Srinivasan told reporters here Monday.
