TVS Motor posts higher turnover and profit for 2013-14

TVS-MotorChennai, April 29 : Two- and three-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company closed the last fiscal with an 11 percent growth in turnover and 126 percent rise in profit after tax, the company said Tuesday.

In a statement, the company said it closed last fiscal with a turnover of Rs. 7,962 crore and a net profit of Rs. 262 crore, up from Rs. 7,169 crore turnover and Rs. 116 crore net profit registered during 2012-13.

It sold 19.93 lakh two-wheelers, down from 19.95 lakh units sold in fiscal 2012-13.

But the company increased its three-wheeler sales to 80,235 units last fiscal as compared to 49,143 units sold in 2012-13.

Shanvi in Kannada remake of 'Ala Modalaindi'

Shanvi-SrivastavaChennai, April 20 : Southern actress Shanvi Srivastav will feature in the yet-untitled Kannada remake of Telugu blockbuster "Ala Modalaindi", which has already been remade in Tamil and will soon see a remake in Hindi as well.

"I have signed the Kannada remake of 'Ala Modalaindi'. We'll start shooting from the end of April," Shanvi told IANS.

Shanvi recently starred in the Kannada remake of Telugu hit "Prema Katha Chitram". This is the second remake she's starring in a row.

She has no qualms about working in remakes.

Daimler India hopes operational break even in 2015-16

Currently the company sells Actros vehicles for the mining segment which has high level of import content, making it costly.

India's Mars Orbiter crosses half-way mark

Mars-OrbiterChennai, April 9 : India's Mars Orbiter has travelled over 340 million km and crossed the half-way mark Wednesday morning on its long journey towards the Red planet, the Indian space agency said.

In a statement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said the Mars Orbiter had crossed the half-way mark along the designated helio-centric trajectory.

According to an ISRO official, the Mars Orbiter has to travel 680 million km.

Chennai Airport suffers one more glass panel crashChennai Airport on Sunday witnessed falling and shattering of a massive glass panel, which sent a wave of shock and panic among bystanders.

A glass panel measuring 6 feet by 3 feet, which was a part of the exterior facade of a new terminal at the airport, fell from a height of nearly 30 feet above the first floor and crashed all the way down to the ground floor, splintering pieces of glass every where.

Many passengers were entering the departure hall, while a family was sitting nearby; but fortunately, no one got injured in the accident.

Hyundai's March sales down 8.4 percent

Hyundai-MotorChennai, April 1 : Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Tuesday reported an 8.4 percent fall in its total sales for March at 51,708 units from 56,437 units in the corresponding month of last year.

In a statement, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 3.4 percent and stood at 35,003 units -- up from 33,858 units sold in March 2013.

TVS Motor sales grows 17 percent in March

TVS-Motor-Sales-GrowsChennai, April 1 : Two- and three-wheeler maker TVS Motor Co Ltd closed last month with 17 percent increase in sales over previous year's corresponding period.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the company said it sold 196,826 units last month, up form 167,583 units sold in March 2013.

The company's total sales last month included 188,822 two-wheelers and 8,004 three-wheelers. In March 2013, TVS Motor sold 162,507 two-wheelers and 5,076 three-wheelers. (IANS)

Ford India not to launch eight new modelsChennai, March 21 - Despite a tough Indian market, Ford India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Ford Motor Company, is not revisiting its business plan of launching eight new models by 2015, said a senior official.

"We are on target with our plans. The Gujarat plant will be ready by the end of 2014 and the first model will roll out early 2015," Ford India president Nigel Harris told reporters here Thursday night.

When asked about Ford India's plans to roll out eight new models by 2015, he said: "No comments on the eight products."

Vijay and Murugadoss have teamed up for the second time after the success of "Thuppakki", which has already been remade in Hindi.

"The spotlight is now on banks being allowed as corporate agents. Banks should ideally be insurance brokers, technically representing the policy holders. Agents, on the other hand, represent the insurers," a senior life insurance official in Mumbai told IANS.

Ensure Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka are freed: Jayalalithaa

JayalalithaaChennai, March 8 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has urged the Indian government to use diplomatic channels to secure the release by March 13 of the 177 Indian fishermen jailed in Sri Lanka.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh released to the media Saturday, Jayalalithaa said the release must take place before leaders of the fishing communities from both countries meet March 13.

"I strongly urge you to ensure that the matter is immediately taken up at the highest diplomatic level for the immediate release of the 177 Tamil Nadu fishermen and their 44 boats," she said.

Hyundai's February sales down 14.9 percent

HyundaiChennai, March 1 : Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor Saturday reported a 14.9 percent fall in its sales in February at 46,505 units from 54,665 units in the like period of 2013.

"Post the reduction in excise duty, enquiry inflow has increased with February sales of 34,005 units with a growth of two percent over the earlier month and it is expected that this would lead towards creation of a positive momentum," said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India.

In a statement, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review stood at 34,005 up from 34,002 units sold in February 2013.

TVS Motor logs seven percent sales growth

TVS-MotorChennai, March 1 : Two and three wheeler maker TVS Motor Company Saturday said it closed last month with a seven percent increase in total sales as compared to sales logged in February 2013.

In a statement the company said it has logged total sales of 177,762 units in february, up form 165,696 units sold in the same month 2013.

Sales of two wheelers increased six percent last month to 170,293 units from 160,895 units in February 2013.

Last month the company sold 7,375 three wheelers as against 4,801 units sold in February 2013.(IANS)

In a statement, the company said it sold 10,100 units last month in the domestic market as compared to 12,756 units sold in February 2013.

"We couldn't think of anyone else for the role. Therefore, we decided to wait for six months to sign Avika. When we approached her, she had already started shooting for 'Uyyala Jampala'. We narrated the story and she instantly liked it," Giridhar told IANS.

In a statement, Ford India said price of Figo has been reduced up to Rs. 23,399, while price of Classic was curtailed up to Rs. 24,056.

EcoSport will cost around Rs. 25,947 cheaper. Fiesta and Endeavour will offer benefits up to Rs. 32,961 and Rs. 1,06,753 respectively.
