Kudankulam n-plant to start commercial operations in OctoberChennai, Sep 16 - Commercial operations of the first 1,000 MW unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) have once again been shifted to October, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) said.

Atomic power operator NPCIL said on its website that the first KNPP unit is expected to start commercial operations October.

The project is 99.74 percent complete as on August 2013.

The NPCIL is setting up two 1,000 MW Russian reactors at Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district, around 650 km from here.

AirAsiaChennai, Sep 12 : Malaysian budget airlines AirAsia Thursday warned the public against responding to false recruitment offers for its Indian operations, and said it will not be responsible for the acts of unauthorised recruitment agencies.

In a statement issued here, AirAsia said it has lodged a police complaint against an unaffiliated agency for running a job scam.

Kamal Haasan's 'Ninaithale Inikkum' digitally restored

"Kamal Haasan will release the trailer of 'Ninaithale Inikkum'. The film has been digitally restored and is getting ready for release soon," said a statement.

Kamal, who co-starred in the film with superstar Rajinikanth and Jayaprada, will release the trailer in the presence of the film's director K. Balachandar.

Morf India to tap retail chains for Kelvinator water purifier

Morf-India-LtdChennai, Sep 9 : City-based water purifier company Morf India Ltd has decided to sell its water purifier through retail chains and standalone outlets and will look at setting up a local unit once the volumes reach economies of scale, said a top company official.

Till then imports from China would continue, managing director M. V. Praveen told IANS.

Last year Morf India announced that it had got the license to market Kelvinator brand water purifiers in India and Sri Lanka from Electrolux Home Products Inc.

Surprised at the news of Microsoft buying Nokia's mobile and services division, P. Suresh, treasurer at Nokia India Thozhilalar Sangam, told IANS: "We came to know about the development only today (Tuesday). We enjoy good rapport with the Nokia management. We hope the same kind of relationship will continue with the new owners."

Spicejet plane engine catches fire, passengers safe

Spicejet-plane-fireChennai, Sep 3 : Sixty-seven passengers of Chennai-Tuticorin Spicejet flight had a narrow escape Tuesday morning at the Tuticorin airport after one of the plane's engines caught fire, said an airport official.

"We noticed smoke from one of the engines. The Bombardier aircraft had landed and was at the parking bay. Immediately, the main fire tender was pressed into service and the fire was contained with water and foam," the official told IANS over phone from Tuticorin, around 650 km from here.

Ford India logs seven percent sales growth in August

FordChennai, Sep 2 : Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of the US auto major Ford Motor Company, Monday said it sold 11,065 units last month, up 7 percent over the same period in the previous year.

In a statement issued here, the company said it sold 11,065 units last month as against 10,352 units sold in August 2012.

In the domestic market, the company sold 8,008 units last month, compared to 7,840 units sold in August 2012.

The company exported 3,057 vehicles in August this year, compared to 2,512 units in the same month last year, recording a growth of 22 percent.(IANS)

Ashok Leyland sales down 24 percent in August

Ashok-LeylandChennai, Sep 2 : Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland Monday said its sales slid 24 percent in August as compared to the like month of 2012.

In a statement here, the company said it sold 7,139 units last month. The offtake was 9,432 units in August 2012.

The company experienced fall across segments - small, medium and heavy commercial vehicles.

For the period April-August 2013, the company has sold 37,609 units, down from 46,704 units sold during comparable period previous year.(IANS)

In a statement issued here the company said the rate of interest on all variable rate loans of all existing customers will go up by 0.25 percent.

"The increase in PLR rate has been driven by the tight liquidity conditions in the market and an increase in borrowing costs of the company," managing director Srinivas Acharyasaid in the statement.

ISRO to assemble another engine for aborted GSLV

ISROChennai, Aug 27 : The Indian space agency will assemble another engine to fly its heavy rocket geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV), while packing off the leaking one to its Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre
(LPSC) for detailed study, an official said Tuesday.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had called off the launch of its GSLV rocket carrying the communication satellite GSAT-14 Aug 19 after the liquid fuel started leaking like a tap from the rocket's second stage.

ISRO's spaceport is located at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, around 80 km from here. The LPSC is situated at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu.
