PMK joins hands with AIADMK in Tamil NaduChennai, Mar 26 : Breaking off its alliance with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Thursday joined hands with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

PMK''s General Council met here today to take a formal decision on forming an alliance with Jyalalithaa-led AIADMK. The meeting was attended by all senior leaders, including PMK founder S Ramadoss and his son and Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani.

According to sources, while 2,453 members voted for the alliance with the AIADMK, only 117 voted against it.

According to sources, the AIADMK has offered seven Lok Sabha seats and one Rajya Sabha seat to the PMK in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Essar launches steel centre at Oragadam

The visiting dignitary had a meeting with State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, who hosted a dinner in her honour.

During her visit, Bachelet will meet scientists of the M. S Swaminathan Research Foundation, besides interacting with IT entrepreneurs and corporate leaders.

She is also scheduled to inaugurate an Indo-Chile cultural exhibition.

Later, she will be conferred with an honorary doctorate at a Madras University function.
