Uber Driver with cancer drives for family

A grandfather from Michigan has been battling with cancer for two years. Ten days ago, he came to know that he has somewhere between just two to 10 weeks to live.

Doctors have recommended Kenneth Broskey to get into hospice care but the 69-year-old has decided to continue working full-time as an Uber driver and real estate agent in the Detroit area.

Broskey told ABC News that he's been trying to raise as much money as possible so that his daughter, 46, and his two grandchildren, aged 13 and 9, have somewhere to live, after his death.

Broskey said, "Once I pass away, chances are my daughter, who's a part-time waitress at a small restaurant in Livonia, will lose the house we live in because she won't be able to afford it anymore".

More than 160 People Hospitalized in New York due to rise in Synthetic Marijuana Use

Since early April, over 160 people have been admitted to hospitals in New York because of a spike in synthetic marijuana use across the state. A warning has been given that it is dangerous and illegal.

According to officials, 120 of the emergency room visits happened in the city between April 8-15 and it's a rise from the average of about 20 per week. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said that poison control center calls stemming from synthetic marijuana have increased radically statewide.

"Synthetic drugs are anything but harmless, and this rash of severe health emergencies is direct proof", said Governor Cuomo.

Isolated Tribe in Venezuelan Amazon resistant to Modern Antibiotics

A study carried out on a remote tribe in the Venezuelan Amazon found that it is resistant to modern antibiotics. It is despite the fact that the tribe members have hardly any contact with the outside world.

In the research published in the journal Science Advances, the researchers have studied the gut, mouth and skin microbes in the people belonging to the isolated tribe in southern Venezuela's Amazonian jungles.

From there, the researchers came to know the level at which modern life may have altered humankind's bodily bacteria. The human body is said to be full of bacteria that are important to perform functions including the immune system and to improve the digestion.

It was a joyful moment for Ben Sunderman, when he ultimately received letter of his internship. He was waiting for it since long and finally got what he was waiting for. Sunderman, who has Down syndrome, was captured on camera by his mother, when he opened the envelope and started reading the acceptance letter aloud.

Sharon Sunderman, Ben's mother told ABC News that her son was seeking a job and he applied at the Embassy Suites hotel in Frisco, Texas, through Project Search. Project Search assists children with disabilities in getting into the working world from high school.

HIV Outbreak in Indiana rises to 120

Recently, Indiana governor Mike Pence started a short-term needle exchange program. According to a statement released by state health officials on Friday, HIV outbreak in Indiana's Scott County has seen a significant rise.

As per the Indiana State Department of Health, Scott County now has 120 confirmed HIV cases. In addition, the county has 10 preliminary positive cases. Last week, the county had 106 confirmed cases of HIV.

The state health officials stated that as more people are tested for HIV, there are chances that the number of cases will be raised in the county. The growing number of cases will put pressure on Pence to extend the short term needle exchange program that was approved on March 26 by the governor.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy teams up with Elmo to promote vaccinations

Surgeon General of the United States Dr. Vivek H. Murthy and the Department of Health and Human Services have joined forces with Elmo, Muppet character on the children's television show Sesame Street, to help children in the United States directly receive vaccinations.

On Friday, Murthy revealed a 30-second public service announcement with Elmo in a blog post published on the Department of Health and Human Services website. In the YouTube video, Murthy and the Muppet character tell children about the importance of getting their vaccinations on time.
