Shopping mall pioneer A. Alfred Taubman dies at 91

Christopher Tennyson from the Office of A. Alfred Taubman, said that Taubman died on Friday of a heart attack in his home in Bloomfield Hills. He was 91.

Taubman was a Pontiac native who helped in bringing the malls to America and became one of Michigan's most important donors to museums and universities

Mehmet Oz defends his Advice and Product Endorsements

Earlier, a group of doctors sent a letter to Columbia University, asking for Turkish-American cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality Mehmet Oz's dismissal from the medical school's faculty. According to medical professionals, some of the television host's advices lack scientific backing. Now, Oz has defended himself against criticism.

In a recent statement released through a representative of The Dr. Oz Show, Oz said, "I bring public information that will help them on their path to be their best selves. We provide multiple points of view, including mine, which is offered without conflict of interest. That doesn't sit well with certain agendas which distort the facts".

According to a recent study, light walking for nearly three hours every week could help cancer survivors reduce harmful effects of their treatment. The research was conducted by the researchers from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. It has been published in the 'Journal of Cancer Survivorship: Research and Practice'.

Many a times when a dog gazes into its owner's eyes, the owner wonders if the dog is feeling affection for him, or just interested in what's on his plate.

Science Magazine has reported that a new study, conducted by researchers in Japan, has thrown some light on this question.

The study has revealed that dogs and humans share a similar hormonal response when they look at each other. It is the same response that humans feel when they look at their infants.

Takefumi Kikusui, an animal behaviorist at Azabu University, said, "I love my dogs, and I always feel that they're more of a partner than a pet. So I started wondering, 'Why are they so close to humans? Why are they connected so tightly to us"?

Pfizer Cleared of Liability in US trial claiming Zoloft can Cause Birth Defects

On Friday, Pfizer was given a clean chit in the first US trial claiming that its antidepressant Zoloft can cause birth defects in children who are born to women who take the drug during pregnancy.

Plaintiff Kristyn Pesante has accused Pfizer for not revealing Zoloft's risks in order to boost sales. She said that owing to the company's failure for not warning about the drug's side effects, her son was born with a rare, serious congenital heart problem.

For a week, the trial has been conducted in St. Louis, Missouri. Pesante has asked for both compensatory and punitive damages from the company. A number of lawsuits have been filed against Zoloft claiming that it causes cardiac and other birth defects.

Measles Outbreak Officially Over in California

On Friday, California announced that the measles outbreak is officially over in the state. The outbreak started at Disneyland affecting 131 Californians.

On March 2, the last case of measles was confirmed and since then, no case of measles has been reported. This prompted authorities concerned to set Friday as the date when the outbreak would be considered over.

From December 28 to March 10, 147 people from seven states were diagnosed with measles. They part of the outbreak that was linked with two Disney theme parks in Orange County, Southern California. In California, 131 people were infected and at least 25 others who lived in seven other states, Canada and Mexico.
