Teen with Down Syndrome overwhelms with joy after getting job
It was a joyful moment for Ben Sunderman, when he ultimately received letter of his internship. He was waiting for it since long and finally got what he was waiting for. Sunderman, who has Down syndrome, was captured on camera by his mother, when he opened the envelope and started reading the acceptance letter aloud.
Sharon Sunderman, Ben's mother told ABC News that her son was seeking a job and he applied at the Embassy Suites hotel in Frisco, Texas, through Project Search. Project Search assists children with disabilities in getting into the working world from high school.
She also said that she didn't go with him on his job interview. But she said that he told the interviewers that he wanted to achieve three targets, i. e. to get a job, to find a girlfriend and to build his muscles.
Ben Sunderman will use public transportation from their home to the hotel and work at his internship for eight hours, starting in August.
Sharon Sunderman said to other parents, whose children have disabilities, "Set your expectations high. We just always encouraged him to do everything he could do. He does his laundry like his siblings, makes his bed like his siblings. Everyone sees him as Ben and loves him for who he is, which is great".
She added that last year, Ben Sunderman also grabbed the title of prom king by a landslide. Sharon Sunderman said that he is adored by everyone and people love him for who he is and this is really awesome.
She also said that adults with disabilities can really help the world and they are happy that Ben got the job and is part of the community. What else parents wish for their children, she added.
