Patients with Advanced Melanoma Live Longer with New Drug Keytruda

According to researchers, patients with advanced melanoma have lived longer when they receive a new drug as compared with the current treatment.

The researchers said that clinical trials recorded a one-year survival rate for 74% of patients taking Keytruda with 58% of those on Yervoy. For the study, 834 patients from around the world who had advanced melanoma have been examined by the researchers. As per experts, melanoma kills an Australian every six hours.

According to the researchers, it has been found that anti-PD-1 antibody pembrolizumbab (Keytruda) prolonged survival and also had less side-effects and less high-grade toxicity than ipilimumbab (Yervoy). The researchers said that the new drug also helped to decrease the size of the tumours in about 70% of the patients.

Liquid Biopsy promising in Finding Snippets of Cancer DNA in Blood

Conventional cancer biopsy requires a doctor to take a sample of the patient's tumor. But researchers have been testing a new and advanced measure.

The new measure is a blood test, which is proving to be a promising way to find out traces of cancer DNA in blood. It is considered that the blood test will help oncologists to quickly figure out whether or not a treatment is working.

Other benefits include whether or not there is a need to continue monitor the case. The treatments not showing any response could be ended and allowing doctors to try other options.

Rosehip helps reduce development of cancer cells for ER+ breast cancer: Study

A new study has revealed that the chances of curing serious disease such as estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer increase with herbal treatment using rosehip.

ER+ effect is one of the most difficult and aggressive type of cancer to treat. It also seems to hit African American women much harder than their Anglo counterparts. Also, according to some researchers, it is least responsive to the chemotherapy treatment.

The researchers concluded a herbal extract known as rosehip helps to fight against the cancer by dramatically reducing the development and migration of cancer cells.
