When jumbos helped rangers bring back rhinos on the run

Lataguri (Dooars) West Bengal, Sep. 25 : Two tamed elephants proved a major help for the forest rangers of the Gorumara National Park in the foothills of Himalaya recently to steer back a rhinoceros and its calf to the sanctuary after the latter strayed into the villages along the Indo-Bhutan Border in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri District.

It was decided to use the services of the two tamed jumbos--Surya and Kalavati--for this special task, which they successfully completed on Sunday.

It is believed that the rhinos might have left their habitat on Saturday (September 20) and strayed northward for over 15 to 20 kilometres to reach the village of Lal Basti, which is the last human settlement in India skirting the Bhutan border.

Tatas to pull out of Singur, fears Nirupam Sen

Ratan TataKolkata, Sept 25 : West Bengal Industries Minister Nirupam Sen on Thursday reportedly told the state Cabinet that there was little possibility of the Tata’s Nano car project taking off from Singur.

Few vendors were seen moving out their equipment over the past few days from the project site, where work has remained suspended for more than three weeks.

Sources said that equipment was carted out from the plant and the cargo is believed to have been moved to the company''s plant in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand.

Tata Motors To Leave Singur

TATA Motors have, finally decided to relocate its small car project. The company Tata Motors To Leave Singurwould no longer remain in Singur in West Bangal. The decision in this regard has been taken in the meeting between Tata management and the Bengal government.

High-powered explosives recovered in Kolkata’s Howrah station

Kolkata, Sept 23 : A green box apparently containing high-powered explosives was on Tuesday recovered at India’s busiest Howrah Railway Station in West Bengal by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) spreading panic across the city in the wake of the recent bomb blasts across the country.

According to Dilip Mitra, Additional Director General (Rail), West Bengal Police, the RPF’s sniffer dog Ceasar started barking furiously during a routine security check of the Up Bhadrak Express on platform number 21. The train had just come in from the car shed.

The green box was found in the luggage compartment of the train.

The box contained markings similar to that used by the Indian Army and read “10 bombs, 51 mm, highly explosive.”
