West Bengal Govt. rejects Trinamool’s demand for 300 acres

Kolkata, Sep 11 : The West Bengal government on Thursday rejected Trinamool Congress demand for return of 300 acres of land from within the project area of the Tata Motors'' plant at Singur.

Emerging out of a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with West Bengal government representatives in the inspection committee WBIDC managing director Subrata Gupta and Hooghly DM Neelam Meena in Kolkata, Trinamool MLA Rabindranath Bhattacharjee said that his party''s demand for return of 300 acres to ''unwilling farmers'' from within the project site has been rejected.

The Trinamool seeks return of 300 acres from the project premises and 100 acres from outside it to farmers.

West Bengal government assures full support to Infosys

Bangalore, Sept 11 : Infosys, the Bangalore based information technology company, has finally got assurance from the West Bengal Government on its proposed investment in the state.

While talking to reporters in Bangalore today, on the occasion of renewal of the group insurance policy for the employees of Infosys, T. V. Mohandas Pai, Member of Board of the company, said, “The Chief Minister and IT minister of West Bengal have spoken with the company and have assured complete support for Infosys.”

Infosys has plans to invest Rs. 250 crore and set up a development centre on the outskirts of Kolkota.

Singur Issue Is Still On

The small car project issue is complicating day by day with neither party willing to Singur Issue Is Still Onchange its stance. There were some hope two days ago, when an agreement was announced to break the impasse over Nano project at Singur.

Both Trinmool congress and state government were agreed on the deal evolved after meeting, but TATA expressed displeasure over the deal and separated itself from it.

ABVP students protest in Kolkata against Bangladeshi immigrantsKolkata, Sept 10 : Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest in Kolkata on Wednesday, against Bangladeshi immigrants in the country.

Scores of activists of ABVP took to streets chanting slogans to voice their resentment against the large number of illegal Bangladeshi nationals who are taking shelter in India.

Holding placards and banners the activists marched down the streets of the city demanding deportation of such Bangladeshi immigrants.

Four-member joint panel to inspect Singur site today

Kolkata, Sept 10 : A four-member committee formed to discuss a land-based solution to compensate farmers in West Bengal will visit Singur today.

After inspecting the TATA Motors’ Nano car project site, the committee comprising of Trinamool Congress leaders Rabindranath Bhattacharya, Becharam Manna, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) Managing Director Subrata Gupta and Hooghly District Magistrate Neelam Meena will hold a second meeting.

The committee had its first meeting in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The Committee will visit Singur to identify land in and around the project area, said State Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen after the meeting.

West Bengal government urges TATA to start operations in Singur

Ratan TataKolkata, Sept 9 : While reassuring Tata Motors, that no land would be taken out of its main plant in Singur or from the vendor’s park, the West Bengal Government has urged the company to start operations at its small car manufacturing unit.

West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen, in an interview to a private TV channel, said, "We have assured the Tatas again that no land will be taken out of the project area and the State Government wants Nano car to roll out from Singur."
