Elephant killed by goods train in West Bengal

west bengalSiliguri, Oct 5 : An elephant was killed by a goods train near Rajabhat Khawo area of the Bauxa Tiger Reserve Forest of Cooch Bihar District of West-Bengal on early Sunday morning.

According to the forest officials, while crossing the railway track, the elephant collided with the speeding train. The animal was crossing the forest from 21, basti area of the forestland to the other part of the forest. It died soon after colliding with the train.

As a result of the accident, two coaches of the train were also derailed.

The DRM of the East Frontier Railway, R. K. Sinha, along with other officials immediately rushed to the spot.

Dasmunshi says Bengal government has to take care of Singur farmers

Priya Ranjan DasmunshiMalda (West Bengal), Oct 5 : Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said here today that the West Bengal Government would have to take responsibility of the farmers who had parted with their land for Tata Motors small car project at Singur.

Dasmunshi said, "Since the affected farmers will not be able to cultivate their land until it is restored to its original form, so the responsibility of looking after the affected farmers lies with the state government."

The company faced many violent protests and agitations on land acquisition issue. It was also forced to halt work at the project site at Singur by the farm community and workers of Trinamool Congress.

The state government of West Bengal tried its best to retain the project but all its efforts ended in smoke due to inflexible attitude of Mamta Benergee. The state had also announced a fresh compensation package but it was also failed to yield consensus on the matter.

Tata’s small car project to pull out of Singur

Ratan Tata announced the decision to the media after discussion with the Chief Minister here today. He said he had to take the decision considering the situation on the ground.

Following Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) sit-in protest at the plant site in Singur, Tata Motors suspended operations at the Nano factory on September 2.

Earlier, Bhattacharjee had written to Ratan Tata requesting him to restart work at the Nano plant at Singur.

Ratan Tata to meet Buddhadeb today

Ratan TataKolkata, Oct 3: Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata will meet West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here today to discuss the company's 'Nano' car project in Singur which has run into rough weather after strong resistance from the Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress over farmland acquisition issue.

According to sources, the meeting is scheduled to be held in the afternoon at the Writers' Buildings.

Work on the Tata's 'Nano' project has been suspended for nearly a month because of the protest by the Trinamool Congress.
