Peshawar, Apr. 4 : Pakistan based human rights groups and civil society activists have lodged protest against the flogging of a 17-year-old girl by the Taliban in Swat.
"I was crying when I saw the footage on various TV channels. I was helpless. It's a shameful and inhuman act," the Daily Times quoted Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) NWFP Vice Chairwoman Musarrat Hilali, as saying.
The HRCP is observing a countrywide protest on Saturday.
Peshawar, Apr. 4: At least thirteen persons were reportedly killed and six others injured in a suspected US drone strike in Datakhel area of Northern Waziristan on Saturday, The Dawn reported.
According to sources, missiles hit a house of a local tribesman in the region killing several people on the spot, including some foreign militants.
“We have information that 13 people were killed including some guests,” an intelligence agency official said.
Peshawar, Apr. 3 : Information Minister of North Western Frontier Province Iftikhar Hussain has claimed that Talibanization on Pak-Afghanistan border is a Pakistan-supported agenda.
"Its strange that we put others in trouble and think all will be well here, if we kill them its Jihad, if we destroy their schools its Jihad, if we destroy their country it is termed jihad and if all this bounces on us than we wonder why it happened," the Dawn quoted Hussain, as saying.
Peshawar, Apr. 1 : The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud has said that Monday's attack on the Police Training Academy in Manawan was carried out in retaliation against the continuous US led drone attacks in the tribal region of the country.
"These attacks were in reaction to the US drone strikes in the Tribal Areas," Mehsud said.
He also vowed that such strikes would continue as long as United States keep on targeting tribal areas.
Peshawar, Mar. 31 : The International Committee of the Red Cross has said that the plight of people in Pakistan and Afghanistan will continue to worsen in the coming months.
The armed conflict in Afghanistan was intensifying and affecting more areas of the country, while fighting and a volatile security situation is causing severe hardship to civilians in the northwest of Pakistan.
Peshawar, Mar. 31: Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud has claimed responsibility for Monday's terror strike on the Lahore police training academy, The News reported.
"Yes, we have carried out this attack. I will give details later," Mehsud told news agencies over telephone.
Earlier, addressing a press conference just after the commando operation in Manawan was finished, Interior Advisor Rehman Malik had pointed out towards Mehsud's involvement in the attack.
