Mogadishu - Gunmen shot dead the director of Radio Shabelle in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Sunday, making him the fifth journalist to be killed this year in the lawless Horn of Africa nation.

Hasan Mohamed Osman, a reporter at the radio station, told the German Press Agency dpa that Muktar Mohamed Hirabe was gunned down while walking in the Bakara market area, a notorious insurgent stronghold.

A fellow Radio Shabelle journalist, Ahmed Omar Hashi-Ahmed Tajir, was also wounded in the attack.

Rome - Italians resumed voting Sunday for European Parliament elections following a slow first day on Saturday, when those who cast ballots represented just over
17 percent of eligible voters.

Almost 21 per cent of eligible voters had cast their ballots by the end of the first day of voting during the last European Parliament elections, held in 2004.

On Sunday, the last day of voting, polling stations were scheduled to close at 10 pm (2000 GMT).

George Town (Malaysia), June 7 : Residents of Penang’s sole Malay Indian village, Kampung Lorong Buah Pala, have urged Pakatan Rakyat leaders to save their village which faces demolition threat due to a development project.

The village''s residents’ association chairman, M. Sugumaran, said Pakatan Rakyat leaders had promised during last year’s general election that as long as Pakatan Rakyat ruled the state, their village would be spared.

London, June 7 : Cabinet ministers supposedly loyal to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, reportedly coordinated a plot to force incumbent Premier Gordon Brown to step down.

Cabinet Ministers Hazel Blears, James Purnell, John Hutton and Caroline Flint all claimed that they were working alone when they handed in their resignations to Number
10, but The Sunday Telegraph discloses they were part of a group of Blairites that met secretly for months and tried to co-ordinate last week’s resignations.

Their intention was to force Brown to stand down in favour of Alan Johnson, the then Health Secretary.

Nevada (US), June 7 : Daniel James Murray, the man who threatened to kill President Barack Obama while collecting cash from a Utah bank, has been arrested at a Nevada casino.

According to the New York Daily News, Murray, who was referred to as ''Cape Man'' by his neighbors in Saratoga County, New York, was arrested in Laughlin, Nevada on Friday, ending a nationwide manhunt.

Istanbul, June 7: British Formula One racing driver has said ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix that the 100 million pound McLaren car should have been scrapped ages ago.

This follows after the McLaren team had another horrific qualifying session at Turkey.

"Welcome to my world. We probably should have scrapped this car a long time ago. It is too late now. But I don''t think we should rush any upgrades. It''s better that we take our time to refine it. It''s not like we can claw back 60 points. We will bounce back next year," The Sun quoted Hamilton, as saying.
