16 Kanwariyas crushed to death in UP

Lucknow, Sept. 14: At least 16 Kanwariyas were crushed to death by an Express train near Saryu Ghat Railway Station of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night.

“The tragedy took place on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur route when Kanwariyas travelling in the Lucknow-Gonda train got off in a bid to take water from the Saryu River, for offering at a temple at Karnelganj,” said Northern Railway Divisional Magistrate, Ashima Singh.

When the Kanwariyas were crossing the track, another train, Gorakhpur-bound Intercity Express crushed them to death, Singh added.

Negroponte briefed Musharraf about progress in the Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue, Geo TV quoted sources in the presidential camp, as saying.

Musharraf told Negroponte that Pakistan’s commitment to the war on terrorism was beyond doubt, as the fight was in the country’s interest.

Chaudhry Shujaat said that the PML-Q was ready to consult other parties to remove their reservations on the presidential poll.

The Daily Times quoted Shujaat as saying that he had no objections to the return of Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, to Pakistan.
