India Still Holds Top Position in Passengers Sales GrowthSales growth in passengers’ vehicle in India is the highest in the world. The information came in lime light when the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) presented the data for the June quarter in which the recorded growth of India was 18.2%.

After India, other countries which registered positive growth were -America with 14.4%, Germany with 14.3% and China with 11%.China’s position has dropped drastically as compared to last year as China was former topper.

The main reason behind the decline was slow growth in the manufacturing sector. The index of industrial production (IIP) rose 8.5% in May 2010. Manufacturing sector constitutes about 80% of the IIP and it increased at a rate of 5.6% in May as compared to 8.9% last year. These figures were revealed by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation.

Vedanta Purchase 10% Stake in Cairn IndiaA London-listed mining group, Vedanta Resources has acquired another 10% stake in Cairn Energy’s Indian subsidiary for $1.5 billion. Vedanta has purchased 191.92 million equity shares of Cairn India at Rs. 355 per share.

Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy has revealed that it will sell another 30% of its stake in Cairn India, if it receives necessary consents and approvals from the government of India.

After the acquisition of stake in Cairn Energy, Vedanta now owns 28.5% stake in Cairn India. Even after the deal Cairn Energy will remain the major stake holder with 52.2% shares.

The Earnings Season Has Started To a Disappointing Start

Euro crisis does not seem to settle down. After Greece bailing out it seems that Spain and Italy could very well follow the league. Weak global cues about the European debt crisis and IIP data for May provoked selling. Bond yields rose in Italy and Spain alerting the risk in debt bonds.

30-share BSE lost more than cumulative 650 points in just matter of three days. The market index settled at 18,411 points with a loss of 310 points. 50-share NSE Nifty shed 90 points to settle for 5526.

Capital goods and consumer durables stocks fell by 2% following the trend of slow growth set by manufacturing goods in month of May which was consequence of industrial production slowdown to 5.6%.
