Scientists at Liverpool University and Norwich’s Genome Analysis Centre have generated the DNA sequence belonging to the East African rodent, which has an inbuilt resistance to tumours and can live for 30 years.

The scientists believe that the study will help increase understanding about why cancers develop and spread in ageing bodies. Scientists have suggested earlier that rat’s cells have a tumour resistant capacity absent in other rodents or in humans.

Dr Joao Pedro Magalhaes, from the university’s institute of integrative biology, said that the long life span of the rodent is a recent discovery. Other similar sized mice have a life span of four years.

According to Ofcom’s newly released interactive broadband map, much of Whales has the worst broadband connection in the UK.

The new clickable map released by the communications regulator allows users to check the take-up and speed of broadband in their area. The map shows 12 county council areas in Wales had the worst broadband connection.

Internet service provider, Facebook yesterday launched a new video chatting in association with popular Internet calling service, Skype.

SBI and Bangalore Metro have given its travelers a new gift of Near Field Communication (NFC) debit cards specially meant for travelling to the Metro stations. With this smart card, the travelers will not have to carry any cash with them.

These cards are transferable and anyone can use it. The NFC chip will be used to trap the check-in records at all the metro stations.

On Thursday, it was found that Bharti Airtel would have a newly organized structure for its operations in India and South Asia. This structure will be effective from August 1 and it is done to improve the efficiency.

Known as the lowest base rate in the industry, State Bank of India’s lending rate will no more be recognized with the same name as the bank has plans of raising its minimum lending rate by 50-75 basis points and that too by later today.

“There is a possibility of hiking base rate by 50-75 basis points by today evening”, the SBI Chairman, Mr. Pratip Chaudhuri told to the reporters today.

Currently, SBI’s base rate is 9.25% and the hike in the lending rate will definitely make home, auto and commercial loans with the bank expensive.
