89 percent consumers want service charge at restaurants to be removed: Survey

New Delhi [India], Feb. 6 : According to a recent survey conducted by citizen engagement platform, LocalCircles, 89 percent consumers have said that restaurants should get rid of service charge.

The survey received over 8000 responses from consumers in over 100 districts of India with 66 percent male and 34 percent female participation.

In a related survey done a month back where the question was about the model of levying service charge, 68 percent consumers had said that they wanted payment of service charge to be optional. Out of the 5000 odd responses received in that poll, only 27 percent consumers had said that they were fine with paying whatever service charge was charged to them by the restaurants.

There is inconsistency in filing income tax, says CBDT Chairman

New Delhi [India], Feb. 6 : Out of a total of 15 lakh companies in India, over 50 percent of them are not filing income tax returns, said Sushil Chandra, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT).

Speaking at a post-Budget event held by CII on Monday, Chandra revealed that only around 50 percent of the companies are regular with filing income tax returns.

"As per statistical information available, only around 36,500 companies are filing return above Rs. 1 crore. We are very certain that more persons should come under the tax net. This is a very serious problem and needs immediate attention," Chandra said.

Oxford Varsity study says 47 percent modern day jobs will be claimed by automation by 2033

New Delhi, Feb.6 : A University of Oxford study has revealed that by the year 2033, as many as 47 percent of modern day job roles could be claimed by automation.

RBI proposes to waive off bank transactions charges and decrease interest rate for credit cards

New Delhi [India], Feb. 4 : In an attempt to promote cashless transactions in the country, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given banks the freedom to fix bank service charges for transactions, stated Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, in Lok Sabha on Friday.

RBI has deregulated interest rates on credit card dues. Interest rates are determined by banks with the approval of their respective Board of Directors subject to regulatory guidelines on interest rate on advances issued by RBI from time to time. RBI does not maintain information on the rate of commission charged.
