Pop singer Rihanna is going to make her debut in acting with the board game-based movie Battleship, as she has signed a deal on Monday. The movie by Universal Studios also stars Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch.

The 22-year old singer will join the unit with Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame and Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights fame. The shooting of the film is expected to start very soon under the direction of Peter Berg. It is expected to release in May 25, 2012.

Taylor will be seen in the role of a naval officer who leads the fight and Skarsgard will be playing his brother in the movie. The film deals with the fight for survival of the planet against a superior force. The international naval forces will be shown battling an alien armada.

The information about the character to be played by Rihanna is not clear yet. The movie has taken inspiration from the board game with more stress on the sci-fi angle.

At present, Rihanna is busy touring to promote her album, Rated R.
