Why humans have chin

According to a research, human chins did not develop because of mechanical forces like chewing, but an evolutionary adaptation related to face size and shape led to its development. This evolutionary adaptation is probably associated with changes in hormone levels as humans became more social.

According to Nathan Holton who studies craniofacial features and mechanics at University of Iowa, primates or the Neanderthals did not have chins and one way or another, it seems unimportant but the reason behind it is quite interesting.

Researchers synthesize technique to determine what happens beneath ground when Missile Strikes Earth

Duke University physicists have developed techniques to determine what happens below the ground when missile strikes the earth.

When a missile hits the ground, the destruction above ground is obvious. However, what happens beneath the surface is still unknown.

The new technique enabled the researches to simulate high-speed impacts in artificial soil and sand in the lab. They were the able to watch what happened underground close-up, in slow motion. In order to capture the impact, they used a close up camera.

The findings revealed that the soil gets harder when struck harder, indicating that a hard hitting missile cannot penetrate the underground part of the soil.

Young Sea Turtles are Very Active Swimmers

A study published in the journal Current Biology has shed light on as to why sea turtles are mostly observed as adults or hatchlings and their disappear when they are young turtles.

The research has shed light on the period of their disappearance. The researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Central Florida conducted an experiment in which they placed trackers on toddler turtles after they were caught in wild.

The researchers tracked 44 turtles for around two to three months. They were able to have a slight idea of what turtles are up to. The researchers then used modeled conditions in ocean currents and also employed carefully designed buoy drifter for comparison.

NASA Releases Footage Captured using GoPro Camera while Spacewalking around ISS

A video captured by an astronaut wearing a GoPro camera during spacewalking around International Space Station has been released by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

In the footage that has been recently released, Earth slowly rotates below the space station while astronauts install antennae, and work on the robotic arm. The astronaut who wore the camera is Terry Virts.

In two videos, some of the work they done can be seen. The researchers are curious about a few things like what's the source of the sound in the videos? According to NASA's spacewalk teams, it is believed that it's the sound of the spacesuit's fan, that circulates air and also drives the water pump and water separator.
