Oklahoma deputy charged in fatality capitulates

On Tuesday, an Oklahoma volunteer sheriff's deputy was booked into the county jail as he fatally shot a suspect after he got confused in his stun gun and handgun, according to authorities.

Robert Bates capitulated at the Tulsa County jail. He was released after posting $25,000 bond. According to Bates' attorney, Clark Brewster, his client would not give any statement. According to Brewster, an initial court appearance will be made by Bates next Tuesday.

NASA Releases Footage Captured using GoPro Camera while Spacewalking around ISS

A video captured by an astronaut wearing a GoPro camera during spacewalking around International Space Station has been released by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

In the footage that has been recently released, Earth slowly rotates below the space station while astronauts install antennae, and work on the robotic arm. The astronaut who wore the camera is Terry Virts.

In two videos, some of the work they done can be seen. The researchers are curious about a few things like what's the source of the sound in the videos? According to NASA's spacewalk teams, it is believed that it's the sound of the spacesuit's fan, that circulates air and also drives the water pump and water separator.

Three teams earn top positions in Michigan State FIRST Robotics District Championship

Three teams from Northville High School, Bedford High School in Monroe County and Central High School in Traverse City have emerged as the best in Michigan State FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics District Championship.

These teams were the top ones among the 102 teams that competed at the state finals that took place at the Deltaplex Arena in Grand Rapids last week.

Michigan is a huge player in FIRST, which is a worldwide competition. The state already has more robotics teams than any other state.

Gail Alpert, president of FIRST in Michigan, which organizes the series of competitions that began earlier this year and culminated with the state event said that it was the biggest state finals since the competition began in 2009.

Persistent low wages cost taxpayers more than $150 billion every year in public support to working families

On Monday, Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education at the University of California released a report that has detailed the state-by-state cost to taxpayers of low wages in the United States for the first time.

According to a new report, more than half of all state and federal spending on public assistance programs now goes to working families.

Ken Jacobs, chair of the labor center and co-author of the new report said, "When companies pay too little for workers to provide for their families, workers rely on public assistance programs to meet their basic needs. This creates significant cost to the states".

Norfolk Southern forecasts Poor First-quarter Results

Railroad operator Norfolk Southern Corporation forecasted disappointing first-quarter results. According to reports, the first-quarter earnings trailed estimates of analysts after coal carloads and fuel surcharges declined.

According to Association of American Railroads statistics, United States carriers posted no growth in carloads in the first quarter of the current year. On Monday, in late trading, Norfolk Southern dropped after announcing that preliminary earnings will drop by about 15% to $1 share from a year earlier. Estimates compiled by Bloomberg stated that analysts earlier predicted that the Virginia based Norfolk will earn approximately $1.26 a share.

Son-in-law of former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has been taken into custody and also charged for defrauding investors out of $7 million in a Ponzi scheme, as per a complaint unsealed in federal court.
