NASA Releases Footage Captured using GoPro Camera while Spacewalking around ISS
A video captured by an astronaut wearing a GoPro camera during spacewalking around International Space Station has been released by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
In the footage that has been recently released, Earth slowly rotates below the space station while astronauts install antennae, and work on the robotic arm. The astronaut who wore the camera is Terry Virts.
In two videos, some of the work they done can be seen. The researchers are curious about a few things like what's the source of the sound in the videos? According to NASA's spacewalk teams, it is believed that it's the sound of the spacesuit's fan, that circulates air and also drives the water pump and water separator.
"The camera was mounted to the mini-workstation which is mounted to the suit. So, the vibrations just carried through the system", NASA spokesperson Dan Huot relayed.
The incredible videos depict breath-taking views of earth from space and never before seen astronaut point-of-view images of the outside of the ISS. The spacewalks were in preparation for the coming of multibillion pound commercial spacecraft that NASA expects will be in operation by 2017.
Recently, NASA has entered in an agreement with commercial spaceflight companies SpaceX and Boeing with an aim to produce spacecraft capable of transporting astronauts to the ISS. The recording was done to provide the future ISS workers an idea of what they can look forward to when they go into space to maintain the commercial spacecraft. The videos are intended at providing the space experience to people on earth.
