London, Dec 15: Dodi Al Fayed’s former fiancée has revealed that he “betrayed” her with Princess Diana, just days before they were supposed to get married.

Kelly Fisher told the jury how Dodi presented her with a "huge" engagement ring and had told her he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, before turning his attention towards Diana.

The former American supermodel revealed that the ring, given to her in February 1997 was so big she thought it was like the one given to Diana by the Prince of Wales.

She also said that Dodi bought a house in Paradise Cove, Malibu, California, for them to live in after their marriage.

However, five months later, by which time Fisher had moved into his Paris apartment, she discovered he had lied to her by saying he was in London for a business meeting when in fact he was in St Tropez with Diana and her sons.

The 39-year-old, who nearly broke down at the London hearing, claimed that as soon as Dodi met the princess, he harshly dumped her and stopped taking her calls, even though it was just days before the interim date for their wedding.

"I felt very betrayed. It is humiliating to have to prove that someone wanted to marry you. He did want to marry me. He told my family. He bought us a house to live in. He gave me a beautiful engagement ring, ” the Telegraph quoted her, as saying.

"Why would I sit here 10 years later when I have a completely new life and lie about being engaged to someone. We were engaged and that is all there is to say about it, ” she added.

Fisher told the inquest she had recorded a telephone call with Dodi in mid-August 1997 after pictures had been published showing Dodi and Diana kissing.

She said that initially that night, she could not get through to Dodi but managed to trace Mohamed Al Fayed, adding that the conversation with the Harrods owner "was horrible because of the things he said to me and called me".

Fisher said that when she finally spoke to Dodi on the telephone, she recorded the call.

She told the inquest she asked Dodi: "Why are you doing this to me? Is it because it's Princess Diana? ”

"I said 'Are we over? ' and he said 'We'll talk when I get to LA'. "

During the call, she said Dodi told her they had broken up two months before.

"I said: 'Dodi, what are you talking about? I just came back from San Tropez [with you]'. I was really going a little bit crazy and he did make a nice gesture to me. He told me, if I wanted, he would get me a psychiatrist, which was really nice, ” she said.

Asked about questions over her engagement, Fisher, fighting back tears, replied: "It's just quite humiliating to sit here and try to prove to people that someone wanted to marry you, you know. " (ANI)
