Average US gas prices dropped 7.26 cents in past two weeksAccording to the Sunday-released figures from the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, the past two weeks witnessed an over 7-cent drop in the average price for one gallon of regular gasoline in the US.

As a result of the fall, which was largely an upshot of the decline in demand due to supply disruption caused by Hurricane Sandy as well as the loss of daylight savings time, the average US price of one gallon of regular gas was $3.47 on November 16; marking a 7.26-cent per gallon drop from the November 2 prices. The average cost of mid-grade gas was $3.65 per gallon during the week, while that of premium was $3.78.

About the fall in US average gas prices, Lundberg Survey's editor Trilby Lundberg said that the most recent fall in the fuel prices has led to an overall 36.47-cent per gallon decline in gas prices over the last six-week period.

In addition, the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices - based on the details gathered from nearly 2,500 gas stations - also showed that the current gas prices are 49 cents less than the thus-far-this-year high of $3.96 on April 6.

Noting that crude oil prices in the US "actually rose a little in the past two weeks but the weak gasoline demand has helped pull down prices and contributed to the down trend (in gasoline prices)," Lundberg said: "The decline is big enough to be a help to consumers in a shaky economy."
