Yahoo expected to announce at least 1,000 job cuts

YahooSan Francisco - Yahoo Inc was to announce at least 1,000 job cuts, possibly as early as Tuesday when it releases its quarterly earnings report, two newspapers reported.

The job cuts would be at least as many as the 1,000 jobs axed in January by the internet portal, which is struggling to compete with Google Inc for online advertising dollars, The Wall Street Journal and California's San Jose Mercury News reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

New Jersey teen hacker admits to Scientology-web attack

Melbourne, Oct 20 : A teenage hacker, belonging to underground group ‘Anonymous’, has confessed to have hacked Church of Scientology websites, say justice officials.

According to the Justice Department, Dmitriy Guzner, 18, of New Jersey will plead guilty to computer hacking, reports News. com. au.

He was accused of allegedly launching a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack against Scientology websites in January this year.

In DDOS attacks, websites are inundated with a large volume of malicious internet traffic, which make the sites inaccessible to legitimate users.

The information filed in federal court in Los Angeles revealed that Guzner described himself as a member of "Anonymous.”

According to the researchers at the University of Leicester, a high percentage of freshers used the Internet to smooth the settling-in process by using social networking sites and podcasting.

The survey questioned 221 first year students and found 55 percent had registered at the social networking site before entering the university while 43 percent had joined straight away after starting university.
