Chidambaram assures full safety for politicians during elections New Delhi, Apr 2 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday assured an up-to-mark security for the politicians in the run up to the general elections.

Talking to reporters here today, Chidambaram said, "There is no need for any panic. There is no need for any alarm... We have deployed enough security forces in the run up to the elections. We have taken all measures that are required to ensure polling takes place peacefully."

More than 3,000 Sikhs were killed by rioting mobs of Congress Party sympathizers and leaders after Gandhi was shot by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984.

CBI’s clean chit proves my innocence again: Tytler New Delhi, Apr 2 : Congress leader Jagdish Tytler on Thursday said the Central Bureau of Investigation's clean chit to him had once again proved his innocence in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

"I was given clean chit earlier also. But a political conspiracy was hatched against me. I am innocent. The truth has come out once again," said Tytler, the Congress candidate from North-East Delhi.

He also blamed the media for keeping the issue alive.

SC issues notice to Election Commission, PRP New Delhi, Apr 2 : The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to the Election Commission and Telugu actor Chiranjeevi-led Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) on the matter of an allotment of a rail engine symbol to the PRP.

A Bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam sought an explanation from the Election Commission on a petition filed by Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party (RKSP).

The RKSP, in its petition to the apex court, claimed that its candidates had been fighting the earlier elections on the rail engine symbol.
