Centre asks states to provide adequate security to VVIPsNew Delhi, Apr 1 : Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has written to Chief Ministers of all the states to provide adequate security for nearly two dozen VVIPs during the period of the upcoming general elections.

Chidambaram has urged all the state chiefs to cooperate with security agencies.

The letter has listed out ''dos and don''ts'' to be ensured by the state police and paramilitary forces during their electioneering, official sources said.

A Bench of Justices Altmas Kabir and H L Dattu delayed the hearing as the judgment of a Constitution Bench on the authenticity of the court ordering CBI probe is awaited in the first week of May.

Indian exports dip 21.7 per cent to 13-year low New Delhi - India's exports fell 21.7 per cent in February to their lowest level in 13 years, owing to lagging demand because of the global recession, the government said Wednesday.

The country's imports also shrank by 23.3 per cent for their second-consecutive fall, the Ministry of Commerce said.

Exports plunged to 11.91 billion dollars in February from 15.22 billion dollars in the corresponding period last year.

The trade deficit this February stood at 4.91 billion dollars, 26.83 per cent lower than in February 2008, the government said.

"My major decisions, as time has passed, seem correct. So, no regrets," The Telegraph quoted him, as saying in New Delhi.
