Seven militants, soldier killed in J-K encounters

Srinagar, Sept 28 : Seven militants, including six foreigners, and an Army jawan were killed and twelve others injured in three separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following a tip-off that a group of militants were moving in high altitude region between Bandipora and Kangan, the Army launched combing operations on Saturday.

Four foreign militants, whose identity and group affiliation are yet to be established, were shot dead during the operation. An Army jawan was also killed in the gun battle in the area.

In a separate encounter, security forces shot dead two militants including a Pakistani national at Kenigam village in Rajpora area of Pulwama District

Pickle markets witness brisk business in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep. 24 : Pickle traders in the Kashmir valley are having a flourishing business during the ongoing Ramadan month when Muslims observe Rozas from dawn to dusk.

Though there is demand for pickles through out the year, during Ramadan month it increases by ten times. Demand for dry fruits, fresh fruit, mutton, chicken also increases.

Local markets are flooded with a wide range of pickles. Almost all the provision stores have set up special stalls solely for the pickles to cater to the needs of devout Rozdars (devout Muslims observing the Roza fasting).

Composite dialogue, a good avenue for solving Kashmiri aims: Expert

Geneva, Sept. 24 : A well known supporter of the Kashmiri cause for self-determination, has said that the ongoing composite dialogue between India and Pakistan, is a good avenue for realizing this cherished goal.

Dr Shabir Choudhry told a conference in Geneva on Tuesday that the peace process, confidence building measures, and cease fire along the LOC have provided some relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those living near the Line of Control.

He, however, warned that terrorist activities in both India and Pakistan are on the increase, and that it is necessary to nip this looming threat sooner than later.

SAIL To Set Up New Steel Plant In J&K

The Steel Authority of India Ltd would set up a new steel processing unit in Pulwama SAIL To Set Up New Steel Plant In J&K district of Jammu and Kashmir. The state run company would invest Rs 150 cr as per its initial plans. It is disclosed by Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday. He was here in Sri nagar to lay the foundation stone of one lakh-tonne per annum unit in Lassipora Industrial estate near Sri Nagar.
