Two Hurriyat leaders arrestedJ&K police has arrested two leaders of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference in two separate raids on Thursday.

They are National People's Party Chairman Syed Saleem Geelani and National Front Acting Chairman Front Abdul Qayoom. Both of them were arrested from Qalia Ander and Court Road.

Shabnum is contesting as an independent candidate in the third phase of seven-phased elections to be held on November 30.

Shabnam Lone defies boycott call, says yes to polls

Srinagar, Nov 20 : Defying a poll boycott call, Shabnam Lone, daughter of slain Hurriyat Conference leader Abdul Gani Lone has decided to contest the state assembly election as an Independent candidate from Kashmir''s Kupwara constituency.

Soon after filing her papers, Shabnam, an advocate by profession said contesting the polls was not her choice but of hundreds of her father''s followers and the people of her constituency.

On the decision of her brothers Sajjad Gani Lone and Bilal Gani Lone to start an anti-poll campaign, She said: "They are right in their own way and this is their personal decision."

Avalanches kill seven soldiers, three civilians in Kashmir

SrinagarSrinagar, Kashmir - At least 10 men, including seven soldiers of the Indian Army, were killed in avalanches in India-administered Kashmir, police said Wednesday.

An army team was sent to find three porters who went missing Monday after an avalanche struck the Nowshera Nar area of Bandipore district, 60 kilometres north of state capital Srinagar.

Women stage anti-poll protest in Bandipur district in J-K

Jammu & Kashmir, CRPFBandipur (J-K), Nov 17 : Angry women protesters clashed with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Bandipora in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday amidst the first phase of seven-phased Assembly polls.

Witnesses said that men, women and children assembled outside the polling booths in the town and tried to stage pro-freedom demonstrations.

The CRPF personnel resorted to baton charge and scuffled with demonstrators to disperse them. Protesters offered stiff resistance and in the police action and mob retaliation at least three persons sustained injuries.
