Governor Sinha had close links with Pandey: Mufti

Jammu, Nov 16 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday alleged that the ex-Governor of the state Lieutenant General (Retd) S. K. Sinha had close links with Malegaon blast mastermind Dayanand Pandey and demanded a thorough investigation in the matter.

Mufti was addressing a press conference at his residence in Jammu today.

The former Chief Minister also alleged that, “Especially the institute of the Governor has been misused by General Sinha. As the person who is the master mind behind Malegaon blast and has been arrested and is under detention was Governor''s guest in 2007.”

Sayeed was addressing a news conference in Jammu today ahead of the seven-phase polling, which will begin from November 17, and end on December 24.

J-K Coordination Committee appeals to people to boycott pollsSrinagar, Nov 16 : The Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee on Sunday appealed to the people of the State to totally boycott the Assembly polls, first phase of which is going to be held on Monday in 10 constituencies of Bandipora, Ladakh and Poonch districts. 

The meeting of the Committee was held here today and presided over by Mian Abdul Qayoom (President Bar Association). 

Cold wave grips Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 16 : Cold wave gripped Jammu and Kashmir after the region witnessed the season''s first snowfall, causing a steep dip in temperature in the valley.

The region received season''s first rainfall on Friday breaking the dry spell that the region was grappling with for the past few months.

The snowfall has affected the life in the region, as people prefer to stay indoors considering the dipping temperature.

Locals could be seen huddled together on roads as they warmed themselves in front of fire.

The snowfall and the sudden change in weather has taken the locals by surprise.

All arrangements for first phase of polls in J-K put in place: Chief Electoral Officer

Jammu & Kashmir, ElectionJammu, Nov 15 : The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, B. R. Sharma, on Saturday said that all arrangements for conducting the first phase of polls on November 17 in ten constituencies of Bandipora, Kargil, Leh and Poonch districts have been completed.

The campaigning for the first phase of elections concluded today.

While briefing the media about the contingency plan in light of snowfall, the CEO said that five helicopter sorties each have been made in Leh and Kargil districts to airlift the polling parties as well as the polling material today.
