5 children, 2 German troops die in Afghan suicide bombingKabul - Five children and two German soldiers were killed Monday in a suicide bombing near the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, the governor of Kunduz province said.

Two other children who were playing nearby and two German soldiers were also wounded, Engineer Mohammad Omar said.

The governor said the attacker on a bicycle blew himself up next to a German army convoy in Amanullah village, five kilometres south of the Chardara district.

Gunmen kidnap former Afghan presidential candidate in Kabul

Kabul - Police said on Monday that a group of gunmen abducted an Afghan former presidential candidate in the capital Kabul.

Humayun Asifi and two relatives were kidnapped by unknown gunmen at 11 pm on Sunday night when he was on his way to his home in western part of Kabul city, Zemarai Bashary, interior ministry spokesman, said.

Bashary could not say if the kidnapping was politically motivated or was the work of criminal gangs, which have recently carried out similar abductions in the city.

A search operation and investigation were underway, he said.

Pakistan President Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad/Peshawar, Oct 20 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has told US Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asian Affairs Richard Boucher that Afghan drug dealers are funding terrorists in Pakistan''s tribal areas.

The above statement was made when both leaders met and discussed ''bilateral affairs'' during a ''courtesy call''.

Zardari also informed that Pakistan had stopped Afghan drug dealers from using its territory for smuggling, which was why they had funded terror activities in Pakistan.
