Researchers unveil why cancer is less common in elephants than in humans

Scientists have spent decades thinking why elephants and other large mammals do not suffer from cancer in comparison to smaller mammals. A new research has found the reason and that is a gene called TP53, also known as guardian of the genome.

Researchers have unveiled that African elephants have 20 copies of the gene TP53. This gene is quite vital as it has the ability to create a protein that suppresses tumors. On the other hand, humans have just one copy of TP53.

Provision of IUD right after birth being offered to more women in US

A new research has found that contraception, especially intrauterine device (IUD) immediately after childbirth, is being widely offered to more number of women in different states of America. A massive rise has been noticed in specific Medicaid reimbursement for an IUD or contraceptive implant immediately after delivery, from zero to 19 states.

The measure is considered beneficial as it will help bring a decline in number of postpartum unintended pregnancy. It will also help low-income families who are unable to have their preferred contraceptive methods.

Study researchers have said that Medicaid programs offer reimbursements of the cost of implanting an IUD procedure. The researchers said the program has become quite popular in just three years.

CMS Releases Final Rules For Stage 2, Stage 3 Modifications

The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology of Regulations, which is related to documentation of electronic health record (EHR) systems and rules for Medicare and Medicaid programs, has included the final rules as a joint release with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) late Tuesday.

It was mentioned in HCI reports that many health IT leaders showed confidence in the flexibilities to the program provided by CMS. These IT leaders gathered in Chicago for the Health IT Summit in Chicago, which was sponsored by the Institute for Health Technology Transformation. Later, it was announced in the summit that CMS has announced a 60-day public comment period to smoothen the progress of Stage 3 of the EHR Incentive Programs.

The head of the Kidney Research Laboratory at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute in Australia, Melissa Little, said that it was very exciting. Little, who led the research published on Wednesday in the journal Nature, said that according to her this was a really big advance.
