ADB disappointed over slow pace of awarding contracts for projects

Islamabad [Pakistan], Oct.25 : The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has articulated dissatisfaction over the pace of awarding contracts for foreign-funded projects in Pakistan which has led to delay in projects, cost overruns and inefficient utilisation of external loans.

This comes at a time when ADB President Takehiko Nakao and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde are visiting Islamabad to attend the 15th Ministerial Conference of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation commencing from Wednesday, reports the Dawn.

The conference will be attended by representatives from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Georgia.

Sri Lanka needs new Constitution to suit post-war time: Ranil Wickremesinghe

Colombo [Sri Lanka], Oct.24 : Sri Lankan Prime Minster Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the country needs a new Constitution as the war which prevailed for the past 30 years has ended and for the country to move forward, suitable changes for the post-war era need to be made.

Stating that formulating a new Constitution cannot be done alone, Wickremesinghe said it requires the support from each and every one.

The Prime Minister was addressing a religious event at Vivekaramaya in Gangodawila on Saturday, reports Colombo Page.

Wickremesinghe said that no one in the government and no political party has made a request to change the places given to the religions or the rights given to the people.

Iran calls for support from non-OPEC members to stabilize oil market

Tehran [Iran], Oct. 24 : Iranian leaders have urged oil producing countries outside the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to back the resolve of the oil cartel to stabilize the oil market and boost crude prices.

According to local media reports, Iran's Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh said that he expects the non-OPEC producers to cooperate with OPEC to boost market stability, reports Xinhua.

Commenting on the meetings between Russian and Saudi energy officials, Zanganeh said that "we hope the two sides will reach agreements and the non-OPEC states and Russia will accompany members of the organization."

Yamaha Motor wins first German Design Award

Iwata [Japan], Oct.24 : Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that its flagship supersport YZF-R1 model has been selected as the winner of the transportation category of the "German Design Award" competition.

This achievement represents Yamaha Motor's first nomination for this award, and was selected as a first-time category winner from among over 4,000 entries.

In addition, the German Design Award marks the fourth design award received by the YZF-R1 (2015 overseas model), following on from the Good Design Award 2015, iF Design Award 2016, and the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016.

In the German Design Award, the German Design Council recommends products from around the world which have already been evaluated as of a high design standard.
