Three day Navy Commanders' conference to begin today

New Delhi [India], Oct. 25 : A three day Conference of Naval Commanders will begin today in New Delhi, where the top-level leadership of the Navy will review the prevailing as well as emerging operational and functional issues at the conference.

It assumes greater significance in the backdrop of recent events that have brought issues related to country's defence under sharper focus.

Indian Navy, like the other two Armed Forces, is required to maintain a high degree of operational preparedness to deter any threat aimed at the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

What's on the surface may not be the truth: Congress on Yadav pari -'war'

New Delhi [India], Oct. 25 : With the Yadav clan war seemingly spiralling out of control close to the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Tuesday said it is quite possible that what's being displayed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) on the surface, may not be the actual reality within the party.

Khurshid told ANI, "What is on the surface may not be the internal truth. These are very personal relationships. I don't think it is for us to celebrate or discuss this. The front face of the party will continue to show and we will take them to face value."

Government preventives required to end ceasefire violations by Pakistan, says NCP

Mumbai [India], Oct. 25 : The National Congress Party (NCP) has urged the government to take preventive measures to stop ceasefire violations along the International Border (IB).

"Unfortunately, unabated ceasefire violations from the other side are going on and there are firings causing injuries to our jawans and even death is caused, it is very sad that this is happening. Our government needs to take some initiatives to prevent this kind from happening and Pakistan must refrain from doing so," NCP leader Majid Memon told ANI.

SC to hear plea filed by banks' against Vijay Mallya today

New Delhi [India], Oct. 25 : The Supreme Court on Monday will hear the plea filed by SBI-led consortium of banks against beleaguered businessman Vijay Mallya for recovery of more than Rs 6,000 crore from him.

The consortium of banks had approached the apex court seeking its intervention in bringing back Mallya to India and also repayment of money which the beleaguered businessman had taken.

The top court had wanted to know from the Union Government about his whereabouts. The Attorney General informed the apex court that Mallya was in England.

The banks, in their plea, told the apex court that there was an outstanding loan of almost Rs. 9,000 crores against the businessman.

U.S. condemns deadly attack on Police Training College in Quetta

Washington D.C [United States], Oct.25 : The United States has condemned the terrorist attack on the Police Training College in Quetta in which 51 people, mostly cadets, have been killed and 97 others injured.

Spokesperson of the United States' Department of State, John Kirby in a press statement extended condolences to the victims and their families, including the police cadets who are embarking on careers of public service.

"We stand with the people of Pakistan and Government of Pakistan at this difficult hour, and we will continue to work with our partners in Pakistan and across the region to combat the threat of terrorism," he said.

At least 51 killed, as terrorists storm police training college in Quetta

Islamabad [ Pakistan], Oct 25 : At least 51 people, mostly cadets, were killed and 97 others were injured as three terrorists stormed a police training college in Quetta Monday night, prompting an operation by military and Frontier Corps forces to clear the premises which houses at least 600 police cadets.

While sharing details of the operation earlier during a press conference, Inspector General Frontier Corps (FC) Major General Sher Afgan, said that the actual number of casualties cannot be confirmed but more than 20 people have been killed in the attack and 65 injured, reports the Dawn.

According to the IG FC, the terrorists were communicating with their handlers in Afghanistan.

"There were three terrorists and all of them were wearing suicide vests," Afgan said.
