According to the reports, U. S. researchers found an association between hearing loss and use of Viagra, the erectile dysfunction medication.

Published in the Archives of Otolaryngology, the study, Head and Neck Surgery, found a potential for long-term hearing loss following use of Viagra, and possibly other phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors drugs such as Cialis and Levitra, although results on those drugs were inconclusive.

U. S. researchers have said that Cochlear implants benefit older adults with hearing loss, but they help younger patients more.

It has been reported that Dr. David R. Friedland and colleagues at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee studied medical records of patients who received cochlear implants, small electronic devices that help provide a sense of sound to the profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing at age 65 or older from 1999 to 2008.

Researchers in Sweden have said that thinking outside the box, creativity, may also be linked to mental illness.

Fredrik Ullen of Karolinska Institutet said in a statement, "We have studied the brain and the dopamine D2 receptors, and have shown that the dopamine system of healthy, highly creative people is similar to that found in people with schizophrenia."

Studies show dopamine receptor genes are linked to the capacity for divergent thought, Ullen said.
