Amid global warming, natural resources shifting towards poles

Not serious about climate change and its impact on human life? Consider the startling findings of a paper published February 24 in the journal Nature Climate Change, which could push you to reconsider your viewpoint. The study has claimed that as the planet has been warming, earthly objects such as trees, plants, fish and other natural resources have been constantly shifting their base towards the poles, in the direction of higher elevations and deeper into the seas.

The study was conducted by a team of researchers led by Eli Fenichel, an assistant professor at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, who cited the example of fish saying money was bound to flow in places wherever the marine life migrated.

Squishiness of human embryo may provide clues about its viability

A latest study has suggested that the viability or squishiness of a fertilized egg indicates whether the IVF is going to be successful or not.

Stanford University researchers, who carried out the test, checked out the rigidity of hour-old fertilized egg as a genuine way for physicians to select the best embryos during in vitro fertilization.

The researchers reached a conclusion that the success of IVF lies in the feasibility of the fertilized egg. The study has appeared in the journal Nature Communications.

Family, Including Ill Father, Removed From Plane As Passengers Applaud Action

A family of three, including a stage-four throat cancer patient, his wife and seven-year-old son, were ready for a flight from Bellingham, Washington, to the Phoenix area for a vacation when suddenly the boy fell ill and plane authorities removed the three from flight, which was applauded by fellow passengers. The incident hurt the sentiments of the family and also this trip would have been one of the last memories of son with his father.

Christina Alvarado, whose son suffered an attack from being closer to dog as he might be having dog allergy, took on to Facebook to describe her reaction. The family was taken off a Mondayflight.

President Obama favors Individual’s Right on Genetic Information

President Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative after its success has raised debate on whether the data collected by it will belong to consumer or the organization. Precision Medicine Initiative has been developed to collect genetic data on one million American volunteers so that scientists can develop drugs and treatments tailored to individual patient.

“I would like to think that if somebody does a test on me or my genes, then that’s mine, but that’s not always how we define these issues,” said President Obama on Thursday during a White House forum on the major biomedical research initiative he began last year. The Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday suggested that patients should have access to their medical records, including genomic testing results.

International Health Officials Prematurely Declared link between Zika and Microcephaly: Report

Talking about the Zika virus, some medical professionals have said that Brazil and international health officials have taken the decision too early to declare an association between the mosquito-borne virus and the rise in birth defects.

Some have even argued that the Brazilian government has been irresponsible on the issue, considering that the link hasn’t been scientifically proven between Zika and the birth defect, called microcephaly, which causes infants to take birth with abnormally tiny heads.

Jack & The Green Sprouts in Wisconsin linked to E. coli outbreak

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that nine people in Minnesota and Wisconsin have got fallen ill during the most recent E. coli outbreak. Two of them have been admitted to hospital.

In River Falls in Wisconsin, the outbreak has been linked to Alfalfa sprouts from Jack & The Green Sprouts.

In an announcement regarding the outbreak, the CDC said, “Of the eight ill people who were interviewed, all eight reported eating or possibly eating alfalfa sprouts in the week before illness started”.

Symptoms of illness can be noticed two to eight days after consumption of contaminated food items. The symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. In most cases, people recover from the illness within a week.
