Pancreatic Cancer Sub-Classified Into Four Categories

Scientists from the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research have tasted success in sub-categorizing pancreatic cancer into four distinct types, namely squamous, pancreatic progenitor, immunogenic and aberrantly differentiated endocrine exocrine (ADEX). The classification has been arrived at after examining more than 450 pancreatic tumors. Each type of pancreatic cancer has its own distinct features and survival rates.

Plastic Surgeries involving butt implants, lift and augmentation rising: ASPS Report

The proportion of plastic surgeries associated involving butt implants, lifting, shaping and augmentation of any other kind, in the United States has been rising over the past few years, according to a recently released report. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has recently revealed that the fastest-growing type of plastic surgery across the nation involves butt implants and lifts. The figures released for 2015 showed that males are equally interested in plastic surgeries. The ASPS stated that over 40% of breast reduction surgeries are carried out on men.

Super Lice is a Growing Concern in 25 States

Kyong Yoon, Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville conducted a study about the strains of lice resistance to a commonly used drug. This resistance has caused problem in 25 states and is referred as a growing problem in many studies since 1990s.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), annually around 12 million people get head lice. "It bites your scalp and then it injects a little bit of its saliva into your scalp. And that's why most people, about 80 to 85 percent of people, have an allergy to that and that's why they get the itching," said Melissa Parker of Lice Clinics of America.

New York Proposes Banning Tobacco in Baseball Fields

A new legislation has been introduced to ban the use of smokeless tobacco in all sports stadiums across New York. The New York City Health Department supports the legislation stating that around 415,000 kids in the US are trying smokeless tobacco.

The Yankee Stadium and Citi Field will be sharing same fate with other sports facilities. Famous baseball players are often seen chewing smokeless tobacco on television screen.

“Unfortunately, our young people repeatedly see professional athletes, especially baseball players, using smokeless tobacco, making this practice appear socially acceptable,” said senior legal counsel Kevin Schroth.

Cleveland Clinic performs first uterus transplant in US

If you don’t have a uterus being a woman, because you came to the world that way or had surgery to remove it, conceiving could be an option soon in the US.

Cleveland Clinic officials made an announcement on February 25 that the hospital performed the first uterus transplant in the US past Wednesday. The practice was part of a clinical trial that is likely to include 10 women in total.

The surgery was performed on a 26-year-old patient, who is stable now, post nine-hour-long surgery. However, the hospital made an announcement regarding the transplant in a lot of rush after the procedure, it's quite early to say if there will be problems and obviously too soon to make any comment over whether the patient can have a successful pregnancy or not.

Thousands of kids have had decayed teeth removed in England's hospitals over last four years

In the past four years, thousands of young children have had decayed teeth plucked out in England's hospitals. A recently published Press Association analysis has shown a steep hike in the numbers of children from age group of 10 years and below needing removal of one or more teeth. The main reason behind tooth decay among children is increased consumption of sugary drinks and food items. Tooth decay could also be blamed on poor dental hygiene among kids.

In 2014-2015, more boys as compared to girls required tooth removal as inpatients. The time period recorded more than 14,000 cases of children aged five and under, who required teeth out.

As a whole, since 2011, there were 128,558 episodes of care for children aged 10 and below needing one or more teeth out.
