Rapper Big Sean tops weekly US Billboard 200 album chart
Sean, better known by his stage name Big Sean, has taken the top position in the weekly US Billboard 200 album chart for the first time on Wednesday. The rapper has got his first No. 1 album status this week as ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ has made it to top on the chart.
According to figures from Nielsen SoundScan, ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ of rapper sold 139,000 album copies. Kid Rock's ‘First Kiss’ is at the second position with 146,000 total album units. The soundtrack to Universal Pictures' steamy hit film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is at No. 3. On February 24, ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ and ‘First Kiss’ were released. The Fifty Shades soundtrack has become one of the fastest selling soundtracks as it has sold 393,000 copies.
It has been informed that the new entry in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart was ‘Fan of a Fan: The Album,’ by rappers Chris Brown and Tyga. The new entry is at No. 7 and sold 67,000 units. Alt-rockers Imagine Dragons, Smoke + Mirrors’ fell to No. 9 this week.
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk! sold 240,000 download and remained the top-selling individual track. After the track was released, it has sold a total of 4.32 million copies. This the Sean first time topping chart and he beat out rocker Kid Rock. It has been informed that Chris Brown and Tyga's Fan of a Fan debuts is at No. 7.
Back in 2007, Sean signed with Kanye West's GOOD Music and after he released a number of mix-tapes, he released his debut album Finally Famous back in 2011.
