Will Smith’s Latest Movie ‘Focus’ Tops Box Office
It has been reported that Will Smith's latest movie 'Focus' grabbed the first position from 'Fifty Shades of grey' at the box office.
Despite its first position at the box office, the movie made a modest $19.1 million opening, which left several questions about the drawing power of the star.
Focus, from Warner Bros., easily topped above all its competitors on a weekend. But the movie had to face little competition at North American multiplexes.
The second place on the box office was scored by the Colin Firth spy thriller 'Kingsman: The Secret Service', which made $11.8 million in its third week of release.
'Fifty Shades of grey' which was on the first position in the first week of its release has continued to slide. Now after two weeks atop the box office, the movie has reached to the fourth position.
'Fifty Shades of Grey', which has made $486.2 million globally still falls behind 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water', from Viacom Inc.'s Paramount. SpongeBob made $11.2 million in fourth week.
The other new releases of the weekend includes, Relativity's horror film 'The Lazarus Effect'. The movie made an opening with scoring fifth place on the box office and earned $10.6 million on its opening.
Focus is Mr. Smith's first film since 2013's 'After earth', the sci-fi flop in which he co-starred with his son, Jaden.
Jeff Goldstein, head of distribution for Warner Bros, said, "This is a mid-budgeted film with a result that matches. There's no question we got hammered because of inclement weather in the South and the Midwest". The R-rated 'Focus', overwhelmingly appealed to adults, with 88 % of its audience to be older than 25.
