Bharti's $10-bn revenue target on course

India's largest telecom major, Bharti Airtel has set a target of $10-bn revenue by next year. It is asserted by chairman and managing director, Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal in the sidelines of a function, organized to launch new brand identity and logo of Bharti group.

He said that Indian telecom sector is emerged as a strong sector and it is hardy impacted by slowdown. Indian telecom companies provide call services at very low prices and they are increasing by volumes. Bharti Airtel is the largest telecom company of the country, having nearly 80 million customers. It contributes about 85% in the revenue of Bharti group.

Sun’s US subsidiary Caraco issued warning letter by FDA

Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories, the Detroit-based generic subsidiary of Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd., has been issued a letter of warning by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and all its future marketing approvals for medicines have been withheld due to some quality-control issues.

This action of the US regulator comes in the wake of certain technical inadequacies identified by it during a May 2008 inspection. The FDA considered some of its observations to be repeat observations, and hence issued the warning letter.

Caraco said the FDA observations include, among other things, the inadequate and untimely investigation by the quality control unit of certain incidents at the facility contrary to the company’s standard operating procedures.

RJD MP manhandles Kingfisher Airlines manager

Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Union Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal MP, allegedly assaulted the station manager of Kingfisher Airlines at Patna Airport on Monday. The incident took place when he was not allowed to board Patna-Kolkata flight, as he reported late at the airport.

In a statement, Kingfisher Airlines, giving a detailed account of the happenings, said: “Considering the fact that the aircraft had begun taxiing, our Airport Manager told Singh that he could not join the flight as we were told that he was not coming. That was when Singh assaulted and abused our Airport Manager in the VIP lounge in the presence of several witnesses.”

The company is targeting to sell one million monitors (both CRT and LCD) in 2008-09, of which 6.5 lakh are in the LCD space and 3.5 lakh will be CRT monitors.

The bank has stated in a release that it has decided to cut PLR by half a per cent and ALCO (Assets and Liability Committee) of the bank would meet on November 10 to review the interest rate scenario.

GAIL inks agreement with Government of Himachal Pradesh

GAIL inks agreement with Government of Himachal PradeshState-run gas utility Gas Authority India Limited (GAIL) has informed that it has signed a Co-operation agreement with Government of Himachal Pradesh to link the hill state with the national gas grid.

GAIL was setting up gas pipeline networks from Uttar Pradesh to Haryana to Punjab and finally to Himachal Pradesh. The 610-km long Dadri-Bawana-Nangal pipeline, which will pass through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab entails an investment worth Rs 25 billion.
