TN death toll reaches 86

Tamil NaduThe death toll in cyclone hit Tamil Nadu has reached 86.

Cyclone Nisha, which crossed the coast near Karaikal, rendered thousands homeless and leaving a trail of destruction across the state. Crops more than one lakh acre of land were submerged.

Over 100 fishing boats were missing and 2,426 revenue villages had been fully damaged due to heavy rains.

Incessant rains for the past few days in Chennai caused extensive damage to roads and resulted in water logging in many areas, prompting the city road and rail transport to curtail services to a number of areas.

According to the Commissioner, Railway Security, it was not firing but only a disruption and the condition is totally normal out there right now.

The 30-share index BSE Sensex, which had slipped into the red in early afternoon trade, has rallied to 9,118.63, up 91.91 points, on account of buying action seen across IT and auto sectors. 

In the meantime, the broad based Nifty gained 7.35 points at 2,759.60 after touching a high of 2,779.00 and a low of 2,690.30.

Champions Trophy put off

Twenty20 Champions League The inaugural Twenty20 Champions League was deferred in the wake of security fears following the terror attacks in Mumbai.

The decision was taken by the league's governing council after consultations with the tournament's three founding board members - India, Australia and South Africa.

The Champions League organisers cited security as a major concern for the tournament and with teams reluctant to participate, they decided to postpone the eight-day event fresh dates for which will be decided next month.

Mumbai Terror strikes forces ICL To Call Off The World Series

ICLThe Indian Cricket League has decided to call off its Season 2 ICL World Series tournament because of the terror attacks in Mumbai on November 26.

The decision to call off the ongoing series was taken last evening at an executive board meeting.

Speaking on this, ICL Executive Board member, Kiran More said, "We have taken the decision of calling off the rest of the ICL World Series tournament. We believe that it is inappropriate to continue the series under the given circumstances. All players and officials are under appropriate security."

Asif puts off his Mumbai visit

Mohammad-AsifIn the wake of terror attacks in Mumbai, dope-tainted pacer Mohammad Asif has cancelled his visit to Mumbai as the hearing of the drugs inquiry tribunal of the IPL has been delayed.

Asif was scheduled to leave for India on Thursday to appear before the drug inquiry tribunal on November 29.

Speaking with the media persons, Asif said, ''After the Mumbai attacks, I called them up to find out the status quo of the drugs tribunal hearing and they told me they will convey fresh dates later on to me."
