With a noble cause in mind, Nokia India has announced its “recycling campaign” for the Indian region. Under this program, the mobile phone users would be encouraged to dump their used handsets and accessories, no matter what brand they are, at any of the 1,300 green recycling bins put up across Nokia priority dealers and Nokia care centers. The basic aim of this effort is to actually spread awareness among the users regarding the recycling of e-waste. 

With the aim to garner a subscriber base of 9 million within two years BSNL is all set to invest Rs 1,600 crore on technologies like WiMAX and optical fibre network. 

Company CMD, Kuldeep Goyal said, “We are working on a target to have around nine million broadband connections in the next two years.” He further added, “While the combined market share of BSNL and MTNL could be 50 per cent in two years, on our own we should be having around 9 million broadband connections.”

New silicon for Netbooks is expected to be launched by Freescale Semiconductor at the Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas which it believes will come in below $200. 

According to to Freescale, formerly Motorola's chipmaking arm, “The ARM chip architecture-based i.MX51 processor is designed to enable low-power, gigahertz performance netbooks at sub-$200 price points.”

Indian export sector could be adversely hit in the financial year 2009 following low demand in the international market. Export sector is facing stiff competition from China as there is substantial gap between prices of Indian products and Chinese products. 

A recently released report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) states that cancellation of orders due to low demand and unavailability of cheap funds is a major challenge ahead of Indian export sector.

India inked defense deal worth USD 2.1 billion with United States to buy eight Boeing P-8 Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance (LRMR) aircrafts for its Navy. It is the biggest ever defense deal signed by both countries which would help to strengthen mutual strategic ties in the areas of military and civil co-operation.

The deal was signed between Indian Defense Ministry's Joint Secretary, Preeti Sudan and Vice-president of Boeing integrated defense systems, Vivek Lall. It may be recalled that the Cabinet Committee on Security had already approved the deal on December 27.

Delhi-based retailer, Vishal Retail may miss revenue targets for the financial year 2009 due to low sales following global financial crisis. Its sales may decline as consumer spending is continuously declining following fears of job cuts and grim job outlook.
