The largest Indian drug maker, in terms of market value, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd has started initiatives to end acquisition dispute of Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. The company has offered to raise purchase price of stake to close the deal out of court.

Leading telecom operator TATA Teleservices has decided to start Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) services by the end of this financial year. The company is already providing CDMA based services in various telecom circles of country.

Tata Teleservices is now planning to spend $2 billion to expand its subscriber base in the GSM market. It may be recalled that its major competitor Rcom has already launched GSM services in 11,000 towns of country few days back.

To cure type-1 diabetes, researchers have found a technique of transplanting insulin-producing pancreatic cells. 

In diabetic patients, pancreatic beta cells are destroyed, which damages the body’s immune system. Heart disease, blindness, kidney disease and premature death can also occur because of Type 1 diabetes. It can also appear during childhood or adolescence. 

Cell transplantation therapy is limited. In this case, the recipients require powerful immunosuppressant medications which often raise the risk of infection and toxic side effects. 

Mumbai Police had arrested many revellers for taking drugs at the Juhu pub two months ago on October 5, 2008. 92% of them have been found positive during the drug tests. The state forensic science laboratory reported that many girls tested positive for Ecstasy or MDMA. 

US scientists have discovered a gene that can identify the risk of heart attack among people under the age of 40 who develop the coronary artery disease (CAD). 

Researchers claim that the new gene would prevent thousands of heart attacks as it predicts the increased risk of heart attack in advance.

Researchers from the Duke University Medical School in North Carolina said that they have found a variation in a particular gene which increases the susceptibility to early coronary artery disease. 

To provide the better health treatment in India, an organization, known as ‘AAPI’ (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) is planning to open at least one free clinic in each state of India. 

This organization has more than 46,000 physicians of Indian origin who are now living in the US. They will train the rural medical professionals for early diagnosing and treating many fatal diseases.
