Whopping 9 million broadband subscriber base targeted by BSNL in two years With the aim to garner a subscriber base of 9 million within two years BSNL is all set to invest Rs 1,600 crore on technologies like WiMAX and optical fibre network. 

Company CMD, Kuldeep Goyal said, “We are working on a target to have around nine million broadband connections in the next two years.” He further added, “While the combined market share of BSNL and MTNL could be 50 per cent in two years, on our own we should be having around 9 million broadband connections.”

Furthermore, it was also informed by PSU CMD that the company will enable all the 30,000 exchanges in rural areas with broadband capacity. As of now, 22,000 such exchanges are broadband enabled. 

CMD for subscribers in rural areas reported, “The government will give equipment to people in rural areas at a subsidized cost and customers need to pay only for the services. Equipment will be almost free for them.”
