Students in Indore protest ragging-driven suicide

Indore, Sept 19 : Students clashed with police in Indore on Wednesday, as they staged a protest against a ragging-driven suicide by a college student a day before.

Hundreds of students, mobilised by unions, gathered outside the Pioneer Institute of Professional Studies, whose student Durgesh Shukla hanged himself on Tuesday.

A suicide note found on the crime scene indicated Shukla felt demoralised after a session of what was supposed to be harmless ragging by his seniors.

Patna Medical College doctors' strike continues

Patna, Sept 19 : Medicos of the Patna Medical College and Hospital are continuing their indefinite strike, which they called on Tuesday night demanding adequate security, after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members clashed with the medicos.

RJD members alleged delay by the hospital in conducting autopsy of a RJD leader Pappu Khan, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Tuesday night.

According to the junior doctors, hundreds of RJD activists barged into the hospital carrying arms and started threatening them.

Pak presidential poll schedule on Friday

Islamabad, Sep 19 : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is likely to announce the presidential poll schedule on Friday, sources have said.

"Preparations are underway to announce the schedule and probably it would be made public on Friday," the Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.

They added that there would be enough time between the poll announcement and the voting process on October 15.

Imran Khan critical of Musharraf and Benazir

Lahore, Sep 19 : Tehrik-i-Insaf chief and former cricketer Imran Khan has said that Pakistan cannot survive under a dictatorial rule, and democracy was indispensable for the country.

Khan told a public meeting at Sahiwal Sahib club President Pervez Musharraf and former premier Benazir Bhutto were determined to complete an American agenda by declaring patriotic citizens as extremists.

India To Hold Nuclear Discussions With IAEA In October

According to the news reports, India is likely to hold discussions with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for precautions relating to its nuclear agreement with the United States.
 
The sources said that the Indian administration would like to hold talks with IAEA after the middle of October.

India-specific safeguards are crucial for the operationalization of the nuclear deal and New Delhi is required to hold negotiations with the IAEA by the middle of next month if it is to get the agreement cleared by early next year.

AIIMS Convocation Postponed To October 25

New Delhi: According to Health Ministry sources, the AIIMS convocation in which the medical students were to be granted degree certificates has been delayed to October.

Now, the students were to be honored their degree certificates by Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss, on September 25.

The sourced stated, “The Minister has prior appointment on September 25 and the date of convocation was fixed without his consent.”
