Patna Medical College doctors' strike continues
Patna, Sept 19 : Medicos of the Patna Medical College and Hospital are continuing their indefinite strike, which they called on Tuesday night demanding adequate security, after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members clashed with the medicos.
RJD members alleged delay by the hospital in conducting autopsy of a RJD leader Pappu Khan, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Tuesday night.
According to the junior doctors, hundreds of RJD activists barged into the hospital carrying arms and started threatening them.
The doctors said their only demand was for the government to provide them with security.
"We cannot function in this manner. Our only demand is arrangement for proper and high security. How can anyone expect us to treat anyone when we are scared for our own lives?" said Anil Kumar Singh, president of Junior Doctors' Association, Patna Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, health services remained paralysed with most of the patients remaining unattended.
Some of the patients were shifted to private hospitals by their relatives.
"Since last night, there are no doctors in the hospital. Oxygen is there, but no doctor to fix it. I am left with no other option but to take the patient to a private doctor," said Vyas Ji, relative of a patient.
The doctors are adamant and have refused to call off their strike till their demands are met.
Four motorcycle-borne gunmen shot dead Khan, while he was on his way to his residence in his car along with his brother-in-law and another person.
The two persons accompanying Khan suffered injuries.
After police took Khan's body to the hospital for post-mortem, Khan's supporters vandalised hospital property and clashed with the junior doctors on duty over "delay" in conducting the autopsy. (With inputs from ANI)
