Hyundai to boost production of sport utility vehicles in US and China

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. reported a decline in profit for a fifth consecutive quarter.
The profits declined in China and United States due to the cost of promotions that were done to strengthen car sales and unfavorable foreign exchange trends.

Net income fell 1% to 1.91 trillion won ($1.76 billion) in the quarter that ended in March. It has beaten the 1.71 trillion won average of 23 analyst estimates that were compiled by Bloomberg.

The Seoul-based company's operating profit declined 18% to 1.59 trillion won, missing the 1.71 trillion won average of analyst estimates.

New Delhi - Seeking to regain its lost market share in the mid-sized sedan segment, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) today launched an updated version of Verna, priced between Rs 7.74 lakh and Rs 12.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The model, which competes with Honday City and Maruti Ciaz, will be available in both petrol and diesel options and have ten variants.

"The world sedan will further strengthen our line up in the sedan segment," Hyundai Motor India Ltd Managing Director and CEO B S Seo told reporters here.

The Hyundai Verna has sold over 2.3 million units globally, he added.

Beginning with a substantial share in the mid-sized sedan segment, Verna had started losing out to rivals.

Hyundai launches SportZ Edition of Grand i10

The Grand SportZ variant would available in two variants -- U2 1.1 litre CRDi diesel engine and 1.2 litre Kappa petrol engine.

Launched in September 2013, Grand i10 has been sold to over 1.1 lakh customers, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement.

Grand SportZ Petrol is priced at Rs 5.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and Grand SportZ Edition Diesel Rs 5.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Elite-i20New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India on Monday launched all new version of its premium compact car i20 priced between Rs 4.9 lakh and Rs 7.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The second generation model -- i20 Elite -- would compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Volkswagen Polo, priced between Rs 4.42 lakh and Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Commenting on the launch, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director & CEO B S Seo said since the launch of first generation i20 in December 2008, the company has so far sold 7.34 lakh units in the country.

Hyundai sales down marginally

The company had sold 48,704 units in the same month of last year, it said in a statement.

In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 29,260 units last month as compared to 25,965 units in July 2013, an increase of 12.69 percent.

During the month, Hyundai's exports declined 17.54 percent to 18,750 units as against 22,739 units in the same month last year.

The country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said its domestic sales rose 31 percent during the month to 1,00,964 units as against 77,002 units in June 2013.

Hyundai-MotorChennai, June 2 : Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Monday reported a fall of nine percent in its sales for May at 51,718 units from 56,856 units in the corresponding month of last year.

However, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 12.8 percent and stood at 36,205 units - up from 32,102 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

The company's exports last month crashed by 37.3 percent at 15,513 units - down from 24,754 units shipped out during the corresponding month of last year.

Hyundai Motor to recall 2437 SUV Santa Fe units

hyundai-santa-feNew Delhi, May 24 : Automobile major Hyundai Motor India Saturday said that it has initiated a process to recall and set right a technical glitch in its sports utility vehicle (SUV) 2011 model Santa Fe.

According to the company, it is recalling 2,437 units of Santa Fe to replace a malfunctioning "Stop Lamp Switch" which is mounted near the brake pedal mechanism.

The stop lamp switch functions as an input to the electronic stability control (ESC) system, allows engagement of the cruise control system, and operates the brake lights.

Hyundai's May sales down 11.8 percent

HyundaiChennai, May 1 :  Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Thursday reported a fall of 11.8 percent in its total sales for April at 50,222 units from 56,953 units in the corresponding month of last year.

However, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 8.8 percent and stood at 35,248 units -- up from 32,403 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

The company's exports last month crashed by 39 percent at 14,974 units -- down from 24,550 units shipped out during the corresponding month of last year.

Hyundai receives 11,000 bookings of entry-level sedan Xcent

Hyundai-Sedan-XcentNew Delhi, April 14 : Automobile major Hyundai Motor India Monday reported it has received bookings for 11,000 units of its entry-level compact sedan 'Xcent’ within just 30 days of its launch in March 2014.

"We are committed and continuously working on the operational efficiencies to cater to the demand to reduce the waiting period," Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India said in a statement.

According to the company, over 100,000 enquiries have been received at its dealerships across metros as well as tier-I and II cities.

Hyundai-MotorChennai, April 1 : Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Tuesday reported an 8.4 percent fall in its total sales for March at 51,708 units from 56,437 units in the corresponding month of last year.

In a statement, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 3.4 percent and stood at 35,003 units -- up from 33,858 units sold in March 2013.

Maruti Suzuki, which had suffered a decline of 6.3 per cent in domestic sales in January, saw an increase of 1.8 per cent in sales to 99,758 units in February this year as against 97,955 units in February last year.

HyundaiChennai, March 1 : Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor Saturday reported a 14.9 percent fall in its sales in February at 46,505 units from 54,665 units in the like period of 2013.

"Post the reduction in excise duty, enquiry inflow has increased with February sales of 34,005 units with a growth of two percent over the earlier month and it is expected that this would lead towards creation of a positive momentum," said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India.

In a statement, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review stood at 34,005 up from 34,002 units sold in February 2013.

Last fall, Tesla's Elon Musk was calling hydrogen fuel cell technology for vehicles "bullsh*t." He meant that as an insult, saying it's a dangerous gas more suitable for rockets than for cars.  But it's almost literally true.

In a few weeks Hyundai will begin leasing a new Tucson Fuel Cell crossover vehicle that runs on hydrogen gas derived from excrement, Discovery News reported.
