US was told about Sharif’s impending disqualification by QureshiIslamabad, Feb. 28 : Washington was aware about the outcome of the Sharif brothers' electoral eligibility case a day before when the Pakistan Supreme Court actually announced its verdict.

Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is in United States to participate in the review of the Obama administration's strategy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, has reportedly told officials that Islamabad had suggested Washington that the Supreme Court could decide against the Sharif brothers'.

"The United States was informed about the decision at least a day before it was announced by the Supreme Court," The Dawn quoted well placed diplomatic sources, as saying.

The US expressed its apprehension about the timing of the decision, saying that political turmoil in Pakistan will affect the `War on terror' in the region, and could shift the attention from the Taliban, Al-Qaeda threat.

Meanwhile, acting US Ambassador, Gerald Feierstea called Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to enquire about the emerging political scenario in Pakistan after the Supreme Court's verdict.

Large scale public protests were witnessed against the apex court's decision all across Pakistan raising fears of a public mutiny. (ANI)
